Good for him. Most of the time, things like what happened last night take place, and everyone says the guy should have the job, then doesn't get it. That's a nice feel-good story.

I guess Terry Bowden will have to put us back on his board. :o He sounded like he really wants to get back into coaching after listening to his commentary on the Cotton Bowl radio broadcast.

Indeed. I wish him great success. You had the sense that at the end of the game that the players' outpouring of love toward him was genuine.

Didn't hurt that Pat White made it very clear who he thought the head coach should be next year - and he did it on national TV.

Makes it official. First to fire, last to hire.

We won't technically be last if we are able to steal someone else's coach.

Ken Kendrick, a major West Va booster and Managing General Partner of the Diamondbacks apparently said the following after the Bill Stewart announcement:

"It's a sad morning. He is so overmatched it's not even funny. He's a nice guy and a father figure. But they had a wonderful architect [Rich Rodriguez] and they hired the painter to build the next house. I want BIll Stewart to win and I want our program to be succesful. But I feel bad for our future. I'm very concerned."

OUCH!

seriously I'm more impressed by UT's Defensive Coordinator choice than I am with the choice at West Virgina. But you know some of you have so little knowledge that you can't conceive of a Coordinator despite the fact that the are hundreds of great Coordinators who have been outstanding choices in say the last 20 years including many headed to the Hall of Fame. That's because you are too lazy to look for the right coach with the particular qualities needed to turn around the SMU job.

Every head coach had to get their first job somewhere. But if we were going to hire a coordinator, we should have done it weeks ago. Who Orsini actually picks won't matter as long as he brings the W's with him!

I'm sure Kendrick's background in software and baseball make him much more qualified to assess the strength of Stewart as a college coach than the coaches, players and others in the athletic department who are around him every day. Hopefully someday Stewart can win enough to be in a position to tell Kendrick to shut his trap.

No kidding. I thought that was pretty harsh for one of their biggest boosters to slam the guy, especially the morning the announcement was made. I'm not sure if that makes him a [deleted] or a tool? I'm thinking tool.

That happens everywhere. These guys donate a lot of money and expect their opinion to be listened to. They get a little ticked when it isn't.

One of Nebraska's largest donors (also a very large donor to SMU)--who the indoor practice facility in Lincoln is named after--said he "didn't give a rats [deleted] who they hired" after they fired the AD and that he "isn't going to give them another penny because I don't give money to people who do stupid things." After Osborne came back, he gave him a call, and he is back on board.

Just look at half the stuff that gets said on this board by people who haven't donated a dollar, let alone several million!
