Terry Bowden Theory

Postby QuikSStang » Thu Jan 03, 2008 9:33 pm

Anybody else think this is possible?:

Terry Bowden was in discussions with SMU, told Steve-O he wanted a bigger job oppurtunity, waited and begged for West Virginia. He realized he wasn't going to get another chance. Comes back to SMU wanting the job again, Orsini says no, thinking that he will leave for a better job in a year or two.

or

He never wanted him and still doesn't.

Anyone who could run the table in the SEC and in the process knock off one of Spurrier's best Florida teams is the kind of coach we should be crawling after and no I am not worried that he has been out of coaching for a few years.

Orsini never had any interest in Bowden. Too long out of coaching. It was Orsini. Not Turner. Orsini.

According to SMU Daily Scampus

Bowden not an option for SMU

Ex-Auburn coach rebuffed multiple times by school

PrintEmail DoubleClick Any Word Page 1 of 1 Don't count on Terry Bowden to be another option in SMU's head coaching search. The ex-Auburn coach was rebuffed multiple times by SMU this fall when he inquired about the position according to a source who spoke with Bowden while he was in Dallas calling the Cotton Bowl for Westwood One Radio.

Bowden told the source that he had talked to SMU officials before then-head coach Phil Bennett was fired on Oct. 28 about the possibility of being head coach for the Mustangs. SMU told Bowden they weren't interested. He inquired again after Bennett was fired and got the same result.

Bowden never got a direct answer from the school why they did not want to hire him.

The source was told by two members of SMU athletic department who have knowledge of the search that those in charge of the process believed there were better coaches available.

"They said they could do better than Terry Bowden," the source said.

Bowden was believed to be a leading contender in the search for West Virginia's coaching position, but the spot was filled Thursday morning after the school's upset win over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. Interim head coach Bill Stewart will take over, leaving Bowden without the job.

The hire gives SMU the not-so-prestigious honor of being the first school to fire their coach and the last one to make a hire. The SMU coaching search will hit day 70 this weekend

I believe Bowden would be great for SMU. Proven Div. 1-A winner, nationally recongized name, great family name, and a great motivator and speaker. I believe he would have the contacts to put together a great staff, support from his Dad and brother, and create a local and national buzz for SMU. I believe this is a missed opportunity.

SMU is so, so, so good at arrogance. Above any other, even those universities where arrogance might exist with credibility. What complete crap. Yeah, better. Almost three months and a crapped out recruiting season later.

Hire Fran, or Jones, or whothe$#%^&@*ever. But be done with it.

True, we must.
Because I've been led to believe Steve-O never had any interest in the first place, so there was nothing for Turner to nix in the first place.
