Who exactly have we 'missed out' on?

Paul Johnson is the only candidate we appeared to be genuinely "going after" who chose to go elsewhere. Every other candidate remains available - and perhaps with good reason.

With respect to coaches: Neuheisel, for one.

With respect to recruits: everybody that's anybody...that's THE ISSUE, Stupid.

What I want to know is who the Pollyannas making these stupid decisions to eliminate the best coaches on our list.

I still say you are all beating up on the wrong horse when you beat up on Orsini. He is not a king...he has bosses who may very well have their own ideas on what is best for good old SMU football. For all we know all that money raised for a new coach may have had some heavy strings attached. You see, we don't really know who to get mad at, but based upon Orsini's last football HC hire, I don't think he is the one mucking up the search.

Good Point. If true, he ought to quit and find a job at a school that is serious about competing at Division 1A instead of the Ivy League

I hope he doesn't, but wouldn't be surprised if the thought has crossed his mind.

if JJ is going to be the next HC, then weve missed out on no one

If JJ was coming, he would have already made his decision and there would have been a press conference at 3 p.m. yesterday, IMHO. What other school who hired a coach since the end of the season didn't have the new coach brought out on the stage within hours of making the decision to hire him?

I still feel like he is playing us trying to get UH to reach out & show him some love, which I believe they will.

We should know soon.

Maybe the administration nixed Barnett, but it is hard to fault SMU for that considering Barnett hasn't even been contacted about an interview ANYWHERE.

Maybe the administration nixed Neuheisel and that might be a shame. We should all note that historically UCLA has been poorly run. Time will tell on that one.

I don't think the administration nixed Bowden. I think Orsini nixed Bowden. Bowden at least got a couple of interviews.

We have missed out on a lot of recruits. We lost a few that were committed. We lost a few that could have been committed. We lost a few Jucos that we needed.

We are also missing out on assistants now. Even if it is Jones, Jones isn't bringing the whole staff to Dallas. That would be stupid. Staffs around the country are being finalized. True, we could not have landed Muschamp, but there were probably a few assistants snapped up in the last few weeks that would have been useful.

Okay, so who's the fallback if June Jones stays in Hawaii? If it's Coach Fran, I'm good with that. He could hit the ground running the fastest in recruiting in Texas.

I believe we were pursuing Neuheisel. From a resent sports news outlet report, Neuheisel was holding off SMU while he waited to see if UCLA offered.

Neuheisel

Those are the ones I think definitely had an interest in us but went elsewhere. Neuheisel to me was a huge loss for us. I don't know if we ever had a legit shot at him since he wound up at his alma mater. If we had moved very quickly we might have gotten him.

Anyone who thinks they can choose the next great HC out of a pool of coordinators believes he can pick the next great stock with certainty. No one can do it. It is a crap shoot. That's why we have to go after a proven HC who can recruit Texas.
