I know that it is difficult for most of us, but stop and think.

Why would SO give away his tactics or direction to any of us? What gives us the right to think that he owes us that information? Why woud we even want him to give it out to us?

This board is not a closed community. Anyone can read it. We read the Navy, GT and other boards when we were going after PJ and there was no more definitive info on any of them. And why would there be? We may have lost PJ because info got out before it should have.

I have hired and fired many "key" employees in my work and would never have wanted the info to get out ahead of the action, not for the company's or for the employee's good.

Our knowing what SO is or is not doing and his reasoning is none of our business at this time. Sure we want to know, but again, it is none of our business.

Steve, do your job.

(I posted this at the end of an old thread but it deserves repeating.)

As much as some people go to the extreme of attacking Orsini, you are swinging the pendulum the other direction.

I have hired and fired employees myself, but my job performance is not on display to thousands of key stakeholders day-in and day-out, nor am I written about and discussed in the national and local media. In positions such as SO's, you have to help control public opinion or people will make their own judgement about the situation. I am not saying it is right or wrong, I am just stating the obvious.

So what I am saying is that should SO be getting grilled, threatened, called names, whatever? Probably not. However, people have every right to ask questions and discuss the matter in the court of public opinion.

thats perfectly reasonable, but the main problems are recruiting and public percetion outside of us. Lack of communication with the fan base is way down the list of concerns at this point. If Jones turn us down, you don't see any problem with that?? Really? Don't you expect your school to target appropriate candidates, vet the candidates and make a timely hire? So far, very much in doubt that SMU has done a good job in this process. If you choose to wait for and interview the wrong guys, thats a problem.

Beanhead fails to take into account:

1) Every other school leaks information to its boosters, fans, and the media about potential replacement coaches, because these schools recognize fan support/interest/understanding is important.

2) The fact that this is the longest coaching search in college fb history + the complete lack of information = SO and SMU look like a joke, which = more BAD publicity for SMU.

3) Recruits are defecting because SMU appears to have its head up its @ss.

4) We could have had one of SEVERAL, QUALIFIED, HIGH-PROFILE coaches MONTHS ago, which allows us to RECRUIT a class for 2008!!!!

It really amazes me just how many willing, koolaid drinking, blind pollyanna sheep we have on this board.

Who is serving kool-aid? You are just negative. We all agree that it would have been great to have a coach weeks ago, however we don't have one. Let's all be supportive and hope for the best coach possible and then get excited about the hire. Nothing we can do about the past....also, no matter what you post, we don't make the decisions. I trust SO and until he lets us down, you should to.

half the people on this board must get checks from the athletic department. Maybe we need some more alums who truly give a damn in the athletic department and not career bureaucrats who just jump to the next job. Hell, at this point hire Craig James for AD and let him kick some [deleted]. This pussyfooting around is really getting old.

he has let us down. This delay has hurt SMU football make no mistake about it. Now lets see if he can pull this out of the fire and redeem himself.

It would have hurt more to keep the status quo. He put us in a position to change and turn the corner. I support it.

you support what Dogg? I am fine with pursuing Johnson and Jones, but the way this has come off leaves alot to be desired. And SMU is in no position to forego a recruiting class and burn the honeymoon period of whomever we hire in the process.

I support his desire to find the right guy. I support his desire to find a coach who can actually get us a decent recruiting class. We were 1-11 last year. We have a long way to go and even though I agree that it would have be advantageous to have a coach in November, it didn't happen...so I support the search and the AD until there is a reason not to support him. If you stuck around through last season, then you can last a few more days HoopFan.

Yeah, something is up. I have to think a lot of these pollyannas are either SMU AD employees or have some vested, concrete interest in the AD looking good. Hoop Fan, every comment I have heard about this search from anyone outside the bubble is one of bewilderment and disbelief at our circus of a search.

I have read more and seen more about SMU in the last 2 months than in the last 20 years. No matter how this ends, SMU has gotten national publicity from this whole thing. If JJ does not come here we still have 2 or three nationally known coaches in the wings. So what on this ******* earth do you guy's want???? SO may be the best AD in the country. He will be gone if this school does not Pony up. They will, and he will eventually get back to ND. Hang on to him as long as you can.

Orsini's actions are so far outside the realm of what a reasonable AD would do that its just unbelievable that so many accept such incompetence. ADs don't miss recruiting deadlines to hire Coaches. The only time this happens is if they lose their Coach to another program. Orsini's is now hurting the chance for a Coach to hit the ground running with a Full Coaching Staff. Again this just doesn't happen. And yet Polly sees nothing wrong. If I am wrong give me 1 example of such a futile Coach Search over the last 10 years. The Steve Orsini Probation continues. The next shoe to drop is SMU players transferring. Then we will find legitimate Coaches turn SMU down because of the self imposed Steve Orsini Probation-the program has been set back and make no mistake a bigger hole has been dug. People we have no had recruiters actively recruiting since the start of October-that is over 3 months. This is a disaster.
