Ultimate f-ball road trip!!!

Postby ponydawg » Mon Jul 28, 2003 8:21 pm

Pony Nation-
My friends and I are pulling off the ultimate football road trip and I need your help. We are taking off work the friday of labor day, renting a Winnie and driving to the dirty Shreve to catch Miami play La Tech thursday night. Then we are going to go to smelly lubbock to see a great upset by our ponies and then sunday going to austin to see the Horns and scare more college ladies. But we need a good High School game to go to on Friday night somewhere between Shreve and Smelly Lubbock. It does not have to be directly on the way but just in the right direction!
So please let me know of any good teams that are playing or any stud recruits.....thanks!
oh, and Coach Bud Kilmer does not have a game that weekend.
Thanks again!

Sounds like a hell of a roadie - I'm sure you'll have a blast.
Drive safe, so you can give us detailed accounts of your escapades.

How's this? The Longview Lobos vs. the Marshall Mavericks in Marshall...hometown of SMU head coach Phil Bennett! Friday, Aug. 29, kickoff at 7:30 p.m....here are two links.

<A HREF="http://www.lobosfootball.com/lobosfootball_schedule2003_page.htm" TARGET=_blank>http://www.lobosfootball.com/lobosfootball_schedule2003_page.htm</A>

<A HREF="http://www.lobosfootball.com/" TARGET=_blank>http://www.lobosfootball.com/</A>

The Longview Lobos are NATIONALLY RANKED! And this is the ONLY four team Division 5-A conference in the state (District 11-5A)! You should try and go...Marshall is right off of Interstate 20, just this side of the Louisiana border. And maybe you could hook up with some of Phil Bennett's kinfolk in Marshall, too!

Here's a little more info about the Longview High Lobos, according to American Football Monthly Magazine:

9. Longview (Texas)
The coach: Pat Collins (20-16, 3 years)
2002: Class 5A/II regional finalist, 10-4
The record: It’s not been since 1937 since the Lobos last tasted a state championship, but only since 1987 since Collins coached a champion. That took place in 1987 while leading Northeast Louisiana to the NCAA
Division I-AA title. The resume: Nine offensive starters and five defensive regulars are back from a team that handed No. 2 Evangel its only defeat last
season and will offer a rematch to the Eagles this season on Sept. 20 in Shreveport. Speed will kill on both sides of the ball for Longview. The top returners are RB Jerrell Williams (5-10, 190) and TE Tate Casey (6-7, 220).

Two questions-
1. Do you already have your game tickets? Reports are that 30,000+ have been sold and a sellout (53,000) is possible.
2. Who will you be in Shreveport to support- LA Tech or Miami-FL? The correct answer may get you an invitation to tailgate in the Independence Bowl north parking lot.

Have a safe trip.

Thanks for your help! The Marshall game would be awesome, only problem is it still leaves us a LONG drive to Smelly Lubbock. And in Shreve we will be pulling for the fist big WAC upset of the week!! Where do we get tickets for the la tech game? And have the Smu Texas Tech tickets gone on sale yet? I can't wait!!! We have waited to long for this weekend!!

Ponydawg: where's your sense of adventure? Image The Marshall v. Longview game is at 7:30 p.m., Friday. Estimate it ends at 10 or so. Start driving to Lubbock. It's 3 hours to Dallas from Marshall. You're in Big D. at 2 a.m. or so. Keep driving to Lubbock. It's 6 hours to Lubbock from Dallas. You're in Lubbock at 8 a.m. or so. Put down stakes on the parking lot at TT and get some sleep for a couple of hours before the tailgating begins! The SMU v. TT game isn't until 6 p.m.! Plenty of time to rest and party! If you and your buddies trade out driving duties, this will be a 'piece of cake'! My money's on you going to the Marshall v. Longview game! Image GO MUSTANGS!

A Mustang gets to the Panhandle town of Lubbock. He gets out of his car and smells something just AWFUL! He looks across the highway and sees a livestock yard, full of cattle. Realizing the smell is coming from there, he approaches a Lubbock native dressed in his finest cowboy attire and asks, "What IS that smell?" The Lubbock cowboy replies with a big grin, "Smells like money to me!" Image

Don't know the schedules but is Midland or Odessa Permian at home. That is more Lubbock's direction.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Yes Wreckem16.....Smelly Lubbock, I thought it was nicer than Sh*tty Lubbock!j/k
I was actually in Midland last weekend for a wedding and drove by the stadium, it is awesome, but I don't think they play that night.
We are thinking of just going straight to Lubbock Friday so we can tailgate all day Saturday and watch all the games on the tube.
Wreckem16, know of any good High School Games in Lubbock?

You drove by what stadium? Jones SBC? Or some stadium in Midland?

And no, I don't know of any high school games in Lubbock. Sorry. Try the Depot District, it's where most students go after games.

MM65 - A Raider and a Longhorn were walking along one day, and the Raider was going on and on about Bob Knight. Career records, national titles, emphasis on discipline... nothing the General had accomplished in his career was left out by the Tech fan. The Longhorn, growing irritated, finally asked the Techsan who he thought would win in a fight, Jesus or Bob Knight?

At this the Raider stopped, thinking long and hard about the question. "Wow," he said, "that's a tough one. What do you think? Could Jesus lick his old man?"
