Looks like AA flight 102 from HNL to DFW is running late this morning. Left HNL around 11:30 and should arrive at 10:25. Supposed to be at gate A23 and baggage claim A28. If JJ did get out yesterday then this would be the flight he is on.

So - who's going to stake out on campus today?

Kate?

Hippo?

If it's really in the 70s today - they should just open the Blvd this afternoon and allow fans to set up their tailgates to watch some NFL action . . .

I think that the somone should convince the Elephant to come up with a new shot named The Purple Hippo that they serve as a game day special, and everyone should have to stop by and get one on their way to the Blvd.

Let's see......

A Purple Hooter is vodka, chambord, and [7up, cranberry, lime juice, or sour]

I'd say it needs to have chambord and/or cranberry in it for the Purple requirement. This would probably require the base to be vodka. Perhaps gin? Maybe could get away with rum--like a rum punch kind of angle on it.

Give gin a try.

I'm having trouble with the rum & cranberry mix. It just sounds foul.

I've never gone with the Morgan on the rum punch. But I do usually just make it with rum (just normal bacardi white rum), cranberry, oj, and pineapple, and usually make it in those giant orange Igloo coolers. Usually runs out early.

I am actually really about to go try and work on this! Nothing happening on the frozen tundra tonight, so I'll get back to you all later if we come up with anything!

I can't imagine Jaeger that doesn't suck. Jaeger, by its very nature, sucks. I'll reserve judgment on Tattoo, but does it taste like licorce?

OK. My fog from last night is lifting. Here is what we came up with. The experiment got cut a little short because our livers don't work like they used to, so everyone feel free to play with this more.

Our goal was a high alcohol, low mixer shooter that was still fruity enough for the girls. And it had to be purple, of course. We also were attempting to get something with a gin or rum base rather than the vodka because there are so many vodka shooters. So, we never really made it to the vodka portion of the experiement.

Once a final recipe is agreed upon, someone will have to take the lead on trying to get the Elephant to buy into our plan, as I'm not in the area anymore, and haven't known the bartenders there for years (last time I was at the Elephant, it was still the old Elephant.)

2 parts Rum (we used white rum)
1 part Gin
1 part Chambord
1 part Cranberry
1 part Pineapple
1/2 part Midori
1/2 part Grenadine

We were also of the opinion that this had a few too many ingredients and would be complicated for the bartenders, so if anyone wants to try and pare it down a bit, go for it. But, if this is a one bar specialty drink for football saturdays, they can potentially just make a big vat of it, and that wouldn't be an issue.

At the very least, we have a good start, I think. (Although we were three sheets to the wind by the time we got to this, so it might not actually be very good! But everyone in the room seemed to like this one the best.)
