If they're willing to up the offer for Jones before he's even rejected it, does that scream desperation?

so at least 1.3 Million-that's more in the range of what I thought would be a minimu reasonable offer, but they are so far behind the curve on facilities and Assistant Coaching salaries that they will have to address those too. Its been reported by confidants of Jones that he is seeking 25 Million in facility upgrades as well. And what it screams is that his attorney has successfully gotten his client into a bidding war.

It's pretty telling that they won't reveal the actual dollar figure. If the Fresno State guy gets 1.2 mill, my guess is the Hawaii offer is 1.3 mill.
That strikes me as too little, too late and not enough on the facilities improvements.

O'Leary---1.08 mil (wonder who hired him????)
Highest in MWC is Patterson, also at 1.2
Here's a link for every coaches salary. Click on the clickable database above the story, and you will get a pop-up that breaks down every salary by conference:

Remember when Todd Graham was renegotiating with Rice and had to take "several" bathroom breaks. Turned out he successfully negotiated the deal with Tulsa.
Would all of Jones' breaks be monitored?

We should be offering BCS money since we want to be in the BCS in the next few years...
There's no way UH can even come close to what we will offer in salary, assistants salaries, facilities, etc.
If he doesn't come to SMU it's because he doesn't want to.
Personally I don't see any way he doesn't come here and I think a Monday announcement (and subsequent coverage during the National Championship Game) will be about the best SMU football moment in the past 20+ years...

I said "want" to be in the BCS.
Realistically, it should be possible to run the table in CUSA which would get a team in the running for the BCS.
I doubt it would happen at SMU, but you never know...
I certainly think June Jones can get us in the Top 25 in the next 3-5 years.

There are several way's to get into the BCS. The best way is for the BCS to implode. If that doesn't happen, the non BCS schools need to go back to congress to get it enlarged. If that kind of happens or scares the BCS enough then we may see a Big 14/PAC 14 or a new BCS conference all together. SMU needs to be ready in case any of these happen. They will not stand a chance with a 1-11 team or a stadium of 30,000 that is half full. The BCS isn't very popular even with the BCS schools.

If June Jones has SMU appearing in Bowl games and/or winning CUSA in the next few years...SMU makes a hell of alot more sense being in the BCS than Baylor does!
