I hadn't really looked at coaches salaries around the country until this whole thing came up. 2 million a year didn't strike me as stunningly high for a coach in college football. I knew it was 4 times what Bennett was making, but I had no idea how far up the coaching list this puts SMU. If it's really 2 million a year, we'll have one of the top ten highest paid coaches in the country. Even the 1.7 million would put us in the top 12. WOW!

Don't rely on the accuracy of that list. One, it only includes the salary of preseason Top 25 teams. Two, it only includes public universities (except USC). Charlie Weiss at Notre Dame makes $3.3MM per and isn't on the list.

Okay, at 2 mill he's #15. At 1.7 mill he's #27. Still pretty far up the list.
