Remember, it won't happen overnight

Just a reminder amidst all the jubilation surrounding our chances of landing JJ that this is still a 3-5 year rebuilding effort. As much as I hate to reaffirm chicken [deleted] Stallion's recruiting obsession, he's right in that we lost a lot of ground this year due to the length of the search. Now hopefully none of you actually believe chicken [deleted]'s declaration that Orsini has instituted a 4-5 year probation. That is beyond stupid. I have very high hopes for the future of SMU football for the first time in a long time. But we as fans need to be patient and know that there will be growing pains. But I can say that FINALLY there is a tangible reason for hope.

We don't need to rebuild, we need to retool. Hawaii was 0-12 the year before JJ got there. They were 9-4 his first year. We can do it in CUSA. We just have to put the talent we have in the best possible situations to win games.

At least there will be hope that things will get better.

we also better remember what went down at Hawaii. If Turner promises admission policy changes, they better happen. If not, c-ya!

I want to see what JJ does with the talent we have. I feel we had several players playing out of position, several players on scholarships that shouldn't be, and several who were just going through the motions. How many will change postions, leave and/or get their scholarships yanked.

I'm actually pretty keen on the idea of seeing what JJ can do with our current roster. I must assume that BigDaddy and BigDaddy Junior are thrilled to pieces at having someone of JJ's calibre (not to mention his prolific offense) on board. One would think this sort of hire is exactly what Willis needs to get back to and exceed his freshman form.

We will, of course have to recruit some OLs and DLs, and hopefully get some JUCO help immediately.

With our defense I don't see how we win 5 games next season. But again it isn't about 08. It's about 09.10, and 11.

It is win now! Unless you are SMU and are so use to the losing ways. We continue to lose and we continue to not be able to recruit and we continue to lose. See how the cycle works.

BigDaddy's right. You don't pay $2 mill a year to "win next year".

The key for next year is can JJ's staff get some JUCO DL/DE/ and LB help this late in recruiting this year, that can come in this spring and give us some depth on defense next year.....I think the offense will better next year, but we just don't have enough depth/talent to have a good enough defense to win in 2008............

We agree on something. I don't expect to go to a bowl next year, but I expect improvement. A winning season would cure a lot of ills around the Hilltop.

Remember the D is a year older. Parham, Smart/Handy/Johnson and Dollens/Elizee up front. Yenga, Bonilla, Moczy/Bon/Phelps at the backers and we have Hud and Dennis at safety and McCann and Bell at the corners. There are several unproven players that could play key rolls on this D. Remember on the offensive side of the ball we have freshman OL waiting to get an opportunity. Big boys at that. We have enough talent to win 7-8 games and we could steal one or two pushing our win total to 8-9 games.

So maybe I should expect a bowl...

Yes, always! Stop thinking like you went to SMU and set high expectations. I promise you JJ will and so will the players that stay.
