The report in the DMN this AM about resigning from Hawaii and coming to Dallas is a little late. The discussions went well and Jones has agreed in principal to a huge salary increase and some relaxed policies on athletic academics. I am told TCU's success on the football field and in the classroom was often referred to.
Leigh Steinberg, his agent, will look over the contract and if he approves Jones could sign today.
Salary and compensation package is confidential but it is said he will be the highest paid coach in CUSA.
In the days ahead the DMN will feature many articles on this hire.
SMU has done a good job of keeping these discussions private. Never saying how many in depth talks they have had or his Dallas location.
The President of SMU, Orisini, the search committee all agree, Jones will bring success and the respect they have been hoping for.
