When can we expect results on the field?

If JJ is in fact the new coach, when can the SMU faithful expect to see results of a $2.0 million per year coach on the field? Is it realistic to expect a winning season in 2008 or do we have to give the new coach another 4-5 years of losing before we can have any kind of expectations?

I believe Uh went from 0-12 to 9-4 with Jones. Dont expect 9-4 but I would say we break 6-6 threshhold within 2 years.

I would expect by the second season JJ's record will be better than PB's best of 6-6. If we don't see a winning season by year 3, then I'm thinking the boosters who put up the big bucks are going to start getting antsy about their investment not paying off.

Win now. This is a business. You get what you pay for. 2mil a year is a win now not later. JJ would not have it any other way. We don't have 4-5 years to wait. In 4-5 years we are playing Tarlenton State in the Allsups Burrito Bowl.

The SMU record is deceptive. Close games, overtimes etc. I think a winning season next year is easily within reach. Many of last yr.s losses were due to coaching. That has hopefully changed.

It looks like we have offically entered big time NCAA Football again & I expect us to be in a bowl next yr.
Why would anybody expect anything less?

The reasons I dont expect to be in a bowl:

1.) The defense that couldnt stop anyone last year has suffered severe personnel losses, with no incoming recruits that could fill those holes.

2.) Offensive line lost 5 of the 9 players from the 2-deep roster. I know there are freshman that redshirted last year, but I dont share the enthusiasm of the posters on here who claim that the freshman will be some kind of immediate massive upgrade. If they were that good they should have been playing last year.

3.) Loss of Zach Sledge and Devon Lowery. I know they were both often maligned on this board, but I dont see anyone who is ready to step up and replace them, and June Jones offense needs recievers.

We should have a better record than this year, but a Bowl will still be a long shot.

One advantage is we play in CUSA.
Look how Memphis turned it around last year.

We better have a better record. We could only do one game worse.

Our defense will still be sieve next year and cost us a lot of games, I'm afraid. I have no expectations of being better, but it would be hard to be any worse.

We are losing a total of 16 seniors from this squad. 8 total seniors were actually starters. The only starters we are losing off the D are McCray, Lindley, Muse, Berry, Hawkins and Hurst. Lindley, Muse, Berry, Hawkins and Hurst were not starters throughout the season. Muse stayed hurt, Hawkins lost his job, Hurst started maybe two games, Berry rotated and Lindley could not cover his [deleted] with a sheet. We finished the season playing some freshman which will be benefical in 08. With the right coach we can make some noise on D.

Other than our being 1-11 this year?
