Maybe its time SMU pulled the rug out of this mess...

It is rapidly becoming apparant that JJ really has had second thoughts. Maybe we just conclude it for him and move on. He doesn't reallly want us and I don't think we should take someone that doesn't really want to be here.
Time to take back our pride and move forward and on...

He said he would make a decision tonight. Might as well stick out the extra hour (or i guess the extra 5 hours if he meant Hawaii time). Jeez.

Yeah, he also said "I have not heard from [SMU]. I will not hear from [SMU]." Then, he resigned from UH.

The decision may already be made, and we may not be aware of the decision until tomorrow. If he decides by morning to come here, then great. We're done. If he decides not to come, then by mid-day we should be on the phone with Coach Fran. Either way, I pray to God our search is over sometime tomorrow, and that we are made aware of the outcome tomorrow!!!

Big Hoss,

If I were SO I would be on the phone with Fran RIGHT NOW.

Two can play this game.

We offered JJ 2.5x his current pay, closer to 3x when you factor in state taxes. When is enough enough???

BTW, If JJ extracted some changes to our Model, maybe all of us can be winners.

I'd be all for that strategy, too. You can't think this will be a restful night for SO, either.

Regardless of how this turns out, I admire SO for all he has done.

And one last point, we will not know with 100% certainty that JJ is our HC until about a week from now.

As stated by many others, there is precedent here and JJ appears truly connected his current University unlike most HCs.

He could accept tonight, go back to Hawaii and change his mind.

And if it would happen anywhere, it would totally happen to SMU.

Yeah, but none of those coaches ever signed the contract. Even Dana Altman who had a press conference about being the B-ball coach at Arkansas.

If SO let's him out of here without the contract signed, it's over. Time to move on. I'm sure they are well aware of that. AND IF HE SIGNS THERE BETTER BE A MEGA-BUYOUT CLAUSE IF HE GOES BACK TO HAWAII!

Most of the time they come to a Letter of Agreement with a full contract to follow.

Talk about a Media Nightmare...

JJ - "I want out of this deal so I can return to my beloved Hawaii"

SO - "You are under contract...you must stay for the next 5 years!!!"

All I am saying is that he has had nine years to bolt and he hasn't. Any other coach would have left last year given their record and his support and pay.
His heart seems really attached to UH and SMU can't cure that.
This has all the smell of a super agent getting his client everything he wants and probably deserves, just not here in Dallas.
