Bad Spot

We are really in a bad spot here. Should Jones stay with Hawaii, I think it will be difficult to get any of the other coaches mentioned given the wide publicity of this interview search.

There is no way Fran would come here for less money than what Jones was offered given his successful career record. I think Fran has way too much pride to play second/third fiddle for what would be a challenging situation at SMU....could be wrong though.

I really hope Jones takes this offer, otherwise this search could continue for a few more weeks. Or, SMU will end up overpaying (probably overpaying as it is) for a less than stellar coach.

Orsini really put this program in a tough spot by betting all his chips on this one.

Additionally, not sure I understand the strategy in revealing all the details of this negotiation to the public.......we have tipped our hand a great deal and probably lost some of our leverage with the other candidates. Its nice to understand what is happening with the search from the perspective of a fan, but it may have been better to keep this all under wraps. We lose leverage with other candidates and we look like a death trap in terms of a HC position......lots of negative publicity.

I hope there are other candidates we have interviewed other than Martz, that we don't know about yet.

The only one talking is his agent. Needless to say, he is doing this to MAKE MORE MONEY.

They had to go through all of this to get Hawaii to get off their [deleted], yet in nine years they have not done it.

As much as you and Paul Hugg carry on about sorority rush, I am surprised that you didn't catch this earlier. No sense of urgency and he suicided the candidates, that is, he chose one at a time and threw every bit of his energy into that particular candidate. Everybody, whether Greek or not at SMU, knows that if you do that at rush, 9 times out of 10, your butt is left cold in the blowing wind.

Great analogy and I completely understand. If you are Kappa Sig, Phi Psi, or Lamda Lambda Lamda, you don't rush a prospective Phi Delt and dump all your rush budget on him. He is using you for free alcohol.

No different sitution here.....

I'm sure Fran is going to ask for the same contract-otherwise why not just sit on his [deleted]. BTW somebody asked earlier tonite if our Phil Delt Social Budget is bigger than UH's Recruiting Budget-a paltry $50,000. I would certainly think so.

Spend at least $110k on Casino alone, I'm sure.

In my day we generally had a least 1 mixer per week with 3 kegs and 3 mixers during the first weeks of school to indoctrinate the freshman floors. Since you can't drink on campus now is there really any point being a member of a fraternity?

The guy just won 12 games and went to the Sugar Bowl. It didn't take this to get UH to add carpet to his office. It would have gotten done with a little public campaigning or behind closed doors threatening. If JJ doesn't sign with SMU he is the biggest AHole on this planet. This isn't fair to us or groveling wimps on the island.
