Re: SMU Fans, Keep it Classy
I would venture to say that 99% of Hawaii fans are classy people. I can tell you this, losing JJ is a serious blow to the program, the University and the state. It may be too big to overcome. That may sound funny, but the man singlehandedly took a football program that was near extinction and got it to a BCS Bowl Game in 9 years. My brief time on here has been good. I have been impressed with the folks posting here, and the few that I exchanged PM's with were also very kind and welcoming. I wish your team the very best. JJ is a special coach. As I have followed his career since 1984 it is very likely that I'll be keeping an eye on SMU... but for right now the pain in my heart of what has been lost for Hawaii is just too great. Thanks to all of you who have been so warm and friendly. ![]()
Give us a chance to have some fun. Next season's football is still going to be tough sledding even for Coach Jones. So, if pressed, I might have a little fun with any wandering trolls. BTW guys, Coach Jones or Coach Dodge? Anybody upset that we didn't try to sign Dodge?
Re: SMU Fans, Keep it Classy
Dr. Death: I've appreciated your posts on this board. Believe me, we are so excited about this development because we have been wandering, lost in the desert for two decades. But we also recognize the loss that the good people at UH are going through right now. I, for one, was pulling for UH against Georgia and I was disappointed in the final results. But I was very impressed with the strong showing of the fans and the sense of pride that your football team brought to UH and the entire state. I hope that JJ will be able to do the same with SMU. The UH fans and community have really made a strong showing; JJ's decision did not come easily. The reason it didn't come easily is because of the support that you all have shown him. I hope for the best for you and your program. You all deserve it.
Agree Dr Death. It's just a shame that some of your fans have to turn on JJ now. Sounds like he wanted to stay, but from what it sounds like, his attempts at improving the state of Hawaii football even more fell on deaf ears. Hopefully your next coach can take the mantle and continue to move it forward.
