to Orsini, Ford, Sewell, and all involved for getting their guy. Orsini comes out unscathed as he got the target he was waiting on.

I still think Fran would have been the best fit but Jones is obviously a very good football coach.

I'll be interested to see how SMU handles the transfer hours and JUCO recruiting. Just caught bits and pieces of the presser and all parties sounded vauge.

One final kudos to Bob Sharp, Mustang Club's Director of Circle of Champions. Obviously, the Circle of Champions guys stepped up. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Bob was influential in all of that.

Can't wait for '08. Go Pones!

Nothing changes on the transfer hours.

If that is the case, 89, then that is very disappointing. JUCOs and transfers have been more a far greater problem than Mike Cavan, Mike Dement and Phil Bennett.

Just a thought.......Don't know if this has ever been brought up, but we are all very aware that they are unlikely to start allowing transfer credits from junior colleges any time soon. Have they considered allowing these kids to finish school for free after their eligibility ends?

I know Nebraska has a program for kids who go to the NFL early (or didn't graduate in 4-5 years) that they can come back at any time and finish school for free, as long as they work for the football team in some capacity (weight room, ad office, etc.) If we could institute something like that, where the kids wouldn't be stuck paying SMU tuition while finishing their degree, that might help????? (Don't really know the mindset of most of the JUCO transfers, but if they had a chance to play for Jones and get a degree from SMU without having to pay at all, even if it were two more years of school, some might come?)

Hopefully, I'm wrong, but was told it is more than an issue that impacts athletics -- it also impacts the school in general but for some reason is complicated to fix (no details here).

As an example, there are several people that transfer out of SMU Sophomore year. If they are not replaced, the number of Sophomores attending SMU goes down and SMU loses revenue. How does SMU replace a Sophomore that leaves? Obviously with a Sophomore transfer to come in.

The problem is (as I understand), you can be at a top school trying to transfer to SMU but your 15 hours of Russian and other classes will not transfer b/c we don't offer Russian. The transfer obviously has to decide do they want to spend $50k to catch-up or go somewhere else.

I'm no expert in recruiting / transfers, etc. and understand this is vague, but I never thought about the non-athletic side.

One thing that caught my attention from the press conference today was when Turner said, "SMU is now competitive in admissions."

The freshman part hasn't concerned me as much the last couple of years, it has been the transfer hours and JUCOs.

Was Turner talking about freshman athletic admissions? All athletic admissions? Saying that SMU made concessions to get Jones on board and that by his coming here, the school is now competitive?

JumpShooter - sorry I ever doubted you!! Years of frustration and rumors about this school "getting a good head coach" have made me a little jaded to rumors/message board hearsay. Thanks for the patience and for posting your thoughts on Friday.

So glad JJ is here! Pony Up and lets all get out butts in the stands to watch the Mustangs!

Go SMU!
