Stallion, what do you make of this...Coach Phil Bennett said 89 players stayed in Dallas to work out over the summer.
Traditionally, Tech starts out slow because of the OPPOSITE of this..no one stays in Lubbock to work out together as a team (there is nothing to do there). Could this be a more prepared, lesser talented team about to upset TECH?
Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...Regardless of how many stayed in Lubbock for Tech, 89 is a huge, huge number and really is a big indication of how excited the players are for the future of the team.
Having guys stay around like that will definately pay dividends. IF we can stay in the game until the 4th quarter, that might provide the edge we need. But staying in the game until the 4th quarter is still a big "if". Just keep in mind that next year is going to be our big step up. We have a lot of positives going forward, but just keep in mind that until next year's class arrives on campus, less than half of our players were recruited seriously by big 12 programs. Our guys will play their hearts out, but don't start expecting some upsets until next year....
Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...Oh, I know, I am wishful thinking, but it is a possibility. We are a better team and they are not as good as last year. But, I realize we dodged a big bullet last year, keeping it close. We wouldn't have beaten aTm like they did, 45-44 or whatever the score it was.
Thanks for the post. And I do see 2004 as the year it turns around.
Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...SWEET CHRISTMAS! I see 2003 as the year that the Mustangs turn it around! What is it with you folks?????

I agree. Phil wouldn't want to hear that 2004 is the break-out year. He has Seniors, who want to win now, and we need progress right away. Remember the old adage, "life is what happens when you are making other plans." Expect to Win, Play to Win and Give it your all. Good things will follow, especially in 2003 Pony Up
Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...SWEET ATTITUDE!!! We are with you Mr.Mustang, tell them they are winners.
SWEET ATTITUDE, We stand with you Mr.Mustang.
quote:
Originally posted by MrMustang1965: SWEET CHRISTMAS! Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...Hey, I am sure there are a lot of examples of 3 or less win teams going on to a winning season. Take TCU when they were down for years. They came from 1-10 (11?) to a winning season and a bowl win! It CAN happen. We are just so beat down for being over optimistic homers that we won't even think about a winning season. It CAN happen. Remember Angels in the Outfield?
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...Get the guys believing they can win any game, have them well-prepared, and you just don't know what could happen. One freak injury or a bad call by the refs or a curious fumble and we could be calling an SMU win over Tech "monumental."
Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...I've been accused of being a homer before, but Angels in the Outfield? Are you guys losing it? I guess they call this the Sunshine board for good reason. But seriously, it does a disservice to Bennett and the team to set EXPECTATIONS too high. Hey we can all dream, hope and pray for a 10-2 season. The team should expect to win every game, but there is nothing wrong with alums discussing achievable goals and benchmarks for the season. I love your attitude too Mr. Mustang65 but don't badger people who want to discuss the program pragmatically at times, that doesn't make us bad fans.
Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...Hoop Fan, you hit it on the head. Everybody should be positive but realistic. The program isn't going to turn around overnight and we should be looking more for progress than for 12-0 seasons.
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...For crying out loud guys, since when is Stallion's word Gospel. You all behave like he has a one up on everything! His comments are only his best guess. He does'nt know what is in the hearts and minds of our future champions. These boys believe in themselves and are not going to wait til 2004 to prove to you so called realists that they CAN and WILL WIN! This is the year of SEABISCUIT mentality. No disrespect to Stallion, but I know my son's heart and soul and he will find a way to inspire his team mates to victory and to play above their heads if need be although I know we have the talent. So what if they were'nt recruited by Big 12 schools. Those idiots don't know that we have the best kept secrets in TEXAS! Go Mustangs!!!!!!!!!
Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...Stallion has zero influence on my perspective, thank you. Good luck to your son, I hope his influence on the team is that strong.
Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...I, for one, live or die by Stallion's word.

Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...Hell, give me a few more Stallions. Although a bit negative at times, the guy hasn't missed a game in 30 or so years. He usually has solid and credible info regarding the team and recruiting. Just because he doesn't sit here and pretend that we're going to win the national championship every year doesn't make him less of a fan.

Re: Stallion, what do you make of this...Hey Damone, I'm alright with a few more Stallions, but what we really need are a few more Charles Jeffersons.
