So glad that Jerry Maquire is June's agent!

June wouldn't have ended up at Hawaii if not for Leigh "Jerry Maguire" Steinberg. And he wouldn't be at SMU now if not for Mr. Steinberg. He's just such a breath of fresh air in the sports/entertainment/agent world. Looking at what's best for the player/coach in all perspectives.
For those of you who don't know what I am talking about, Cameron Crowe followed Leigh for two years (more?) leading up to Jerry Maguire. True his original inspiration was his favorite film director, but in terms of molding the character it was Leigh. Much of the Cush stuff was based on Leigh and Bledsoe at the draft, of course Bledsoe stuck with Steinberg, but Cameron couldn't believe all the folks trying to steal the soon-to-be number one pick away from Steinberg. Also the show me the money line came from one of Steinberg's clients (though it was a Crowe creation) and, purportedly, he sought romantic advise from one of his clients - Warren Moon - just as Maguire does from the Gooding, Jr. character. Oh yeah, and when he's calling the family after his client suffers a concussion, that was a scene straight out of him calling several members of Aikman's family after one of his concussions.
Steinberg served later then as a consultant on the film (as well as consulting on Any Given Sunday and Arli$$ among others)... I wonder if the SMU connection was his or Cameron's?
The number one pick in the draft - QB Cushman - was from SMU in the film.
Now let's hope that June Jones can make that fiction a reality!!!
.........
But this whole thing - what I am meaning to say is - Leigh Steinberg is a truly unique individual in the sporting landscape. No way another agent would have encouraged this move, much less facilitated it. He knows his clients and he knows their desires.
I give all the credit in the world to Orsini... but we can't forget Steinberg.
