As some one that came to SMU in 1990 with little knowledge of the history of SMU athletics (raised mostly in MO, barely in TX) and as some one that played a sport for SMU, today may have been one of my most enjoyable days. In most days past, wearing an SMU hat or shirt, would have received a look of, "oh, there is a little snotty SMU kid/alumni". But today, I wore an SMU hat proudly all day...after the official news broke on the internet...even at work!!! The comments I heard all day, at work, at dinner, and even in 7-11 were...

"Congratulations on your new coach....good luck!!"

"Nice to see SMU bringing back football"

"I would love to see some good college football in Dallas!"


I was living out of state when Bennett came, so I am unsure of the excitement, but I don't remember anything like this in the last 20 years!!!!

I wore my SMU hat to dinner on University right across from Froggie High tonight. I got dirty looks.

I had a similar experience. I work with mostly Gators and Seminoles and take a lot of ribbing about the mini SMU football helmet on my desk. I had people stopping by and emailing all day telling me congratulations and that they thought June Jones was a steal for SMU. They were also sorry that Florida would not get a chance to play June Jones after his comments about Tebow, but I was too excited to really care. It's a great day to be a Mustang.

Darth wore his 1981 Southwest Conference Champions t-shirt tonight in honor of JJ's hire.....
