I didn't understand why he was say that...I mean the beat OSU fair and square. When I think about it maybe he is saying some other team should have been playing in the national championship being that they are the only 2 loss team ever to play in it. That's my guess anyways.

Also, I think that he is saying that we need a playoff system as oppose the BCS system. He is saying that a playoff system is the only way that we could have a"true" national champion.

I assume Georgia, USC, and perhaps Missouri and one loss Kansas would argue the system didn't work. They didn't get a real shot.

The result: Our first two loss BCS champion.

I suspect he was referring to a playoff system need. You had UGA, WVA, USC, Missouri, OU, Va. Tech, OSU, and LSU all really in the hunt. UGA, Missouri, USC, LSU and WVA all took care of bidness. They should have had a shot to win in a round robin. Imagine OSU vs. Missou, LSU vs. Va. Tech., OU vs. USC., WVA vs. UGA. Now that would have been some fun games to watch followed by the semi finals and then the finals. Assuming that UGA, OSU, LSU and USC all won. Then you'd have had USC/LSU and UGA/OSU. More more entertaining than the bowls we had.

Playoffs. We need playoffs. Take the top two teams out of every conf and let them go at it. Sorry nd. you will need to be in a conf to compete.

The 8 team playoff that is being pushed by Georgia (I put it in some thread here today) is the way to go. End of the day 8 teams have a true shot not just two

I'm totally for a playoff, but his statement is ridiculous. What team would have been the non-bogus national champion out of that group?

The team that lost to Stanford at home? The team that lost to Pitt at home? The team that lost to OU twice? One of the teams that didn't even win their conference?

The team that never lost in regulation all year, and that it took 3 overtimes to beat both times, is the clear winner of that group in my opinion.

Husker Pony, the team that lost to Pitt beat the snot out of OU. That Missou lousy team won their bowl game in a romp as did KU over Va. Tech. USC lost to Stanford torched IU who beat OSU. LSU lost to Kentucky and Arkansas. UGA had an unfortunate losses to Tenn and So. Carolina (neither team were slouches). Tenn almost beat LSU in the conference championship game. There were plenty of great teams this year and a playoff would have made for a much more interesting bowl season.

the BCS is fine the way it is, just the selection guys are idiots. what they need to do is put the best teams together that match up on paper. it should have been LSU/OSU, USC vs. UGA in the Rose Bowl (screw tradition), Illinois/Hawaii in the sugar bowl, OU/Va Tech in the Fiesta and Kansas/WVU in the Orange. all would have been good match ups. the problem with playoffs is that you wont be able to satisfy everyone. you want to play for the NC? fine, then DONT LOSE. even with a playoff, the teams that just missed the 8 spots will [deleted]. if you up that number to 16, what about the 17th/18th ranked teams? they'll [deleted] too. there will never be a way to satisfy all. keep the current format but make the matchups more appealing and even. the rose and sugar bowls were jokes.

If you make the playoff based on conference champions, nobody can [deleted]. Everyone plays most of their conference mates, so you have no "selection bias" to prevent you from winning your conference, and thus no room to complain if you don't make the playoff.

USC's only loss in 2003 was in three overtimes and they didn't make it to the BCS Championship game. Instead it was LSU (who lost by two touch downs) and Oklahoma (who didn't even win their conference). Something needs to be done.
