Dwan Returns

Have been out of the country. My thoughts on June Jones.

1)WOW

2)Orsini put his balls on the table and won. Took a lot of risks, but to win big, you have to risk big. Coffee is for closers and Steve should be drinking coffee.

3)We hire only the second coach from a non-bcs conference that took his team to a BCS bowl game. The other being Urban Meyer.

4)I cannot think of a better coach. Success in the NFL, took an 0-12 Hawaii team and turned them around to 8-4 in his first year. So he has coached in the NFL and has success turning around a down program.

5)Most importantly, he is a hot coach now. Not 5 years ago, not 10 years ago, now.

6) If it looked like he would have been available 2 months ago, I bet Michigan, Arkansas, Georgia Tech would all have loved to make a strong move for him.

7)There is more national excitment surrounding this hire in the local and national media. It is the biggest story at SMU since the death penalty.

Go Mustangs!

Nice to have you back, Dwan.

Other positives:

--He wasn't fired from his job
--He had a TON of fan support
--He has no baggage. No email-gate. No taking a talented team from a national championship into the ditch (as some like to say)
--He's a current coach--hasn't been out of the game for an extended period of time.

I really like this hire.
