So, did Frazier underpay Jones to get a $15k bonus?

To get the bonus Frazier had to keep athletic department in the black for two consecutive years and pay off a loan to the University.

The athletic department made $68,325 in the 2007 fiscal year.

In the 2006 the department made a $7,483 profit, reversing years of red ink.

An audit discovered a "human error" that caused former star football coach June Jones to be underpaid by $10,000 in the 2006 fiscal year. Jones has since been compensated for that amount, according to the audit.

Did Frazier need to find a little extra money in fiscal year 2006 and decide that a minor reduction in Jones' paycheck wouldn't be noticed?

Even if Frazier had nothing to do with this little "human error," I bet this bonus was a big reason Frazier did not want to renegotiate Jones' contract or make needed mprovements. Frazier knew it would come at the expense of his bonus. Frazier probably figured he had the greater need for extra money.

Doesn't sound like a smart trade there...give us a job paying you just under 300k for a 15k bonus...doubting even frazier would stoop that low.

Bigger question is the multi-million dollar bonus that the program gets from going to a BCS game...how the hell is hawaii only turning a 68K profit?

Wouldn't that BCS bonus have been paid after their bowl appearance in 2008?

Right, the $68k was for the year ended June 30, 2007.

The University has not determined how much of the BCS money the athletic department will receive for the year ended June 30, 2008.
