SMU is the Talk of the Town...

...at least until the Cowboy game this weekend.

However, it's GREAT to wear an SMU shirt and have people say things like "Great hire over there!" or "I plan to attend some games next year!" or "This is what the Mustangs needed to get back in the mix!" I've had everyone from the gas station attendant to the grocery store checker to the waiter at dinner tonight comment on the hiring of JJ since last Monday. It's good to know that people are paying attention and that they're just as optimistic as many of us are on this board.

Also, from time-to-time posters on this board (myself included!) have commented on the lack of SMU apparel in Dallas area stores. While it still has a ways to go (and I hope the upcoming season changes that!), I found a store that carries some pretty decent shirts, sweatshirts and ball caps: Tyler's on West Lovers Lane, about a block west of the tollroad. Even the salesman there commented about the "great hire of JJ at SMU"! Also, the Albertson's on Mockingbird, just east of Abrams Road has some pretty decent SMU gear. Check 'em out!

While I'm just as optimistic as the next guy, I still carry the "JT: No Expectations" card in my wallet. It would be nice if I could burn it at the end of the 2008 season!

Let's not. There will be too many empty seats when things go back downhill (not being pessimistic just realistic). And there's a limit to how high buildings can be.

Everyone in my office and all my non-SMU buddies are amazed we got June Jones. I have received nothing but positive feedback. My non-SMU buddies (who I used to beg to go to a game) now cannot wait to go to a game and watch the June Jones offense.

Will you be serving them Billy Joe's homemade brew before the games on The Blvd, too? ;)

We need to get established where getting Ford to near-full happens against all opponents before we consider filling in the bowl.

Once we get there, however, we MUST get it filled in. Top players want to go to a big-time program. Even compared to Amon-Carter Ford looks like a high school stadium because it is so small. Very nice, but small.

Once we get to a TCU level we absolutely must expand Ford.

Hopefully we can then start filling a 45k seat Ford and start looking for a way to sneak another deck past University Park regulations.

BOOOO! If we get the fans, let's build it. Why is it going to go downhill? Let's climb this hill first.

I get the same reaction and I do NOT live in Dallas. It is great!

I received the following message from one of my Gator friends:
nice job on snagging UH's coach. now if you could only get those horses to drink...

I think this is the first non-negative comment he's made about SMU. We're making progress.

Not really, I know I use the ASU analogy a lot, but they started Sun Devil Stadium with around 40,000 seats between 2 small mountains (buttes) and just kept going higher to around 75,000. Also, there ain't no going back this time. Never again.

Was at a bar before the USC/Wazzu basketball game in LA tonight and struck up a conversation with a WSU fan who asked me where I went to school (after asking if I was an SC alum) and as soon as I said SMU, he goes, "Wow, I can't believe you guys hired June Jones away from Hawaii!! And $2 million?? That's unreal!" Apparently ESPN works up in the Pacific Northwest...

Baby steps. We need to worry about getting 15K fans first.
