I'm with him. I hate the idea of losing McMackin, but I understand why he'd stay at Hawaii. I have no doubt that Jones will be able to complete his staff with some great coaches.

Thanks, Stallion, for the timely post. Defensive coordinator Greg McMackin appears to be held in high regard and we would be fortune to get him, despite June's classly endorsement of Greg to replace him at UH.

Either way, Greg will do well. Hopefully with us!

I'm not as worried about MacMackin as others. June has a wealth of contacts, so I would think he has some contingency plans for DC already mapped out.

Nice of him to take the high road with Frazier. And I said this Saturday, I don't think Hawaii goes into this mode unless Jones leaves. It's up to them.

My biggest concern with Mack lies in that a number of people have said that he's an awesome recruiter. Does anyone have anything to support that? I know it's been said several times on here.

On the news front, Jones said he has talked frequently with Greg McMackin the past few days, and he fully supports his former DC’s bid to replace him as UH head coach.

“It’s the right thing for the school,â€

Apparently did a very good job recruiting when he was at TTU.

Already named one of the nation’s top coaches by American Football Magazine, McMackin also was named the Big 12 Conference’s top recruiter by Rivals.com. McMackin’s presence showed dividends in his first season at Texas Tech

Was that with Leach or Spike?

Leach.

Here's his UH bio too:

As far as I can figure, he left the Seahawks in 98 to join JJ in Hawaii for a year, was at TTU for 2 or 3 years starting in 2000, then went to the 49ers for 3 years, took a year off, and was back at UH this year.

I believe Leach got the HC job at TTU in 2000.

"Hawaii defensive coordinator Greg McMackin, who was Leach's defensive coordinator at Texas Tech from 2000 to 2002."

Ever notice how the Hawaii media is very melodramatic with everything it writes?

Assistant coaches Wes Suan, Dan Morrison and Dennis McKnight have already committed to joining Jones at SMU.

And Hawai'i hasn't seen the last of Jones.

He said he hopes to schedule games between his former and current schools, and he also hopes SMU will one day earn a bid to the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl through the game's affiliation with Conference USA.

anyone else think that it's funny that McMakin was the Defensive coordinator for Tech and Hawaii?
