Timeline For Complete Staff

I feel like we need to have our complete staff in place by the end of this week at the latest. We have confirmed that Suan, Morrison, and McKnight are coming w/ JJ from Hawaii. We still have an entire defensive staff to fill. I would expect the word to come down that McMackin is JJ's successor so I'm sure JJ has been working his connections to find a quality D-Coordinator. Either way, this staff needs to take shape quickly so they can hit the ground running with recruiting.

McMackin could be confirmed as soon as tomorrow. Once that avenue is done I expect JJ to move on to plan B very quickly.

i was talking about this the other day. has a HC ever been fired from his position to return the next year (or ever) as a coordinator at the same school?

i bet a lot of people have been thinking about this... I don't think this would necessarily be a bad move for PB. i think i saw it posted in a thread that the average pay out to the assistant coaches would be $222,000 based on the money that was raised. Well it's safe to say that the DC will be making more then a regular position coach. So if JJ offered PB to be his DC somewhere around the 300K to 375K, I could see him taking the job. And I honestly believe PB is a great defensive mind, and with JJ (hopefully) bringing in better recruits maybe PB's scheme will work here. just a thought

Coach Jones praised Bennett and Cavan at the press conference and everyone always says what a great guy Coach Bennett is so you never know. However, how would that work with the players? While I could see PB coming back as DC in about 4 years it would likely cause too much confusion in the near future.

I never want to see PB on the sideline again. Sorry.

Bennett can't recruit. Bring in someone who can make a halfway decent defense and can recruit studs.

There is a greater chance that I'll be the defensive coordinator than Phil Bennett. That is just a weird situation all around.

I wonder if he trys to get Akina for DC. I'm not suggesting that it would be a good or bad move. Jones obviously knows the Akina, he has Texas ties, and he kinda got demoted at Texas.

Edmenson,Think thats how you spell it. Went from OC to WR's coach here at SMU. Thought you guys followed the program a little more closely than that.
