Have Patience

hello, Warrior fan here. Congrats on your new hire. I expect good things for you all in the future, but please have patience with June, his system and style do not just mesh with everything over night.

I used to live in the city of Portland, Oregon. Where Jerry Glanville and Mouse Davis now coach the Portland State Vikings, the buzz around the city was incredible, they had found the coach and the system that would make them successful, their problem? They expected instant success. The Vikings, who usually finish around the 8 win range every year finished with 3. They thought the system, and the coach, would pull of a miracle season....just like the Warriors did in 1999.

The Vikings saw the system thrive, when they played Weber State Fr. QB Drew Hubel in his first career start threw for 9 TD passes, they scored over 70 points!!!! And LOST!!!! Why? Because of the system. The R&S can do wonders for the offense but hurt the defense. This offense is so quick and so potent, you're on and off the field so quickly, which fatigues the defense. It took time for Mouse Davis(June's Mentor) and the Vikings to get things down, with patience they will have success. But patience is what SMU Nation needs, It took the Warriors 9 years to get where we are now, it took a guy named Colt Brennan to take JJ's offense to a level JJ couldn't even comprehend. It took a guy named Greg McMackin, who molded the defense into what it is now. And it took heart, It took lots of individual plays that helped us achieve our goal.

Fans have patience, you will have your time, just what ever you do don't expect a miracle season next year, if you do you will be very irritated with the result. Good luck to you all, and get ready to see some fire works!!!

Not to worry, with our old patented "3 & Out" offense, we have been conditioning our defense for such a task.

No worries. In the last few years, we've experienced a one win season, and a no win season, so 3 wins would actually be an improvement!

In all seriousness, I think we will all see the direction June is taking the team in a short amount of time. That may not culminate a remarkable number of wins the first year, but considering how much the team was hyped this last season and let us down, our enthusiasm is pretty tempered.

And that's assuming we don't fumble on one of the first 2!

But we ended up #119 in clutch offense.

LOL. True.

I also found it interesting that we were #45 (of 120) in yards per play. #1 was Hawaii. And we were #38 in yards per game. Tulsa was #1 and Hawaii was #4.

The biggest problem (duh) was our defense. We were #116 (of 120) in total defense.

These two probably would have swapped places had we played Hawaii and not Tulsa.

Patience is in hard to find around here but we all deep down know we must have some. I really thought we had turned the corner prior to this year. This hire is a spark and we must not let it OUT, now matter how many wins these next couple of years.

This hire has provide an excitement that has not been prevalent on the Hilltop since the Wild Wild West days before the _______ P________.
