From Sunday's Dallas Morning News:
CB Rutledge is lighter on his feet
UNIVERSITY PARK – Cornerback Jonas Rutledge hopes changing his form will help him regain the form that made him a first team All-WAC player in 2001. He is back to 182 pounds after bulking up to 192 last season.
Rutledge also wants to score on a kickoff return this season, after failing to do so in 2002. He ran one back from 92 yards in 2001.

Briefly ...
Starting offensive guard Townsend Hargis, a junior from Plano, went down with an apparent left knee sprain in Saturday's practice. An MRI is scheduled for Monday.

Was it a kick-off punt returns that Jonas struggled with in the Navy game last year?

He bobbled the ball so much during punt returns that he lost the job to Cody Cardwell. He kept his job as the kickoff return man, but he wasn't the same old Jonas.

I'm hoping he will be back to the old Jonas this year. Last year, it seemed like he just didn't have that burst to break on a pass and get there for the INT, or to run away from people when he was running back a return. Maybe dropping a few pounds will give him the extra step he needs.

say it aint so! If Hargis' injury, we are in serious trouble and will have to go with another frosh on the OL. Let's hope he's ready for the opener.

Don't forget that Jonas was forced into the PR role after the Comet went down. Prior to that he was the KOR man only. The inexperience showed in the Navy game.

Texas Football listed Chad Meachum as the back-up for Hargis but I don't see him on the roster in SMUMustangs.
What happened to Meachum?
Who, if not Grant Eidson, was # 02 at RG before Hargis got hurt?

Maybe Martin Guidry can play RG as well as LG?

I thought Dustin Morton was the backup at right guard. And what about Chris Poulos? He's listed at guard, too. I think Justin Boren, Bryan Turner and Caleb Peveto all have played some guard, too.

Morton is listed as second string left guard, but Poulos is more ready. I would be surprised not to see him or Eidson step in.

Okay, so the likely candidates are Eidson, Morton and Poulos if Hargis can't go, and if no true freshman makes a move.
But my football press guide came today. The depth chart shows Meachum as the back-up for Hargis, just like Texas Football. The bio says he is the back-up.
Same question. What happened to Meachum?
And when?

Meacham is not on the current roster. Neither are several other walk-ons from last year. He was listed as back up guard in both TX Football and Media Guide.

Townsend had his MRI this morning and he has no major ligament damage. He sprained his knee and it is swollen and sore. He is walking without crutches and he is getting treatment 3 times per day. He should be out 1 week and then he will be day to day depending on how the swelling responds.
He has DonJoy knee braces and they saved him from serious injury. His knee hyperextended on an extra point try when a defensive linemen fell across his knee. The brace locked out and saved him from ligament damage. It is dangerous out there when the big boys are banging heads.
Townsend is a very tough kid. He is itching to get back on the practice field to get ready for the Tech Game.
