Walk-onsGot ahold of the roster they've printed up, and there are some some interesting walk-ons.
#8 QB Ryan Rowland (6-3, 200) - Midland, Texas #30 WR Geoff Parker (6-1, 180) - Highland Village (Marcus), Texas #31 CB Chase Hargis (5-9, 171) - Southlake, Texas #34 DB Rhett Stall (5-10, 178) - Dallas (Lake Highlands), Texas #48 LB Mark Manning (5-10, 210) - Burnet, Texas #48 DS Zac Simmonds (6-3, 221) - Tulsa (Union), Okla. #58 LB Blake Johnson (6-0, 198) - Plano (Plano West), Texas #66 C Ben Poynter (6-4, 260) - Arlington (Lamar), Texas #82 WR Charlie Johnson-Nuñez (6-1, 188) - Horseshoe Bay (Permian), Texas #91 OL John Blackburn (5-9, 216) - Southlake (Carroll), Texas #94 DT Andrew Feige (6-2, 279) - Dallas (Lake Highlands), Texas #97 DE Dominic Pryor (6-5, 239) - Red Oak, Texas No numbers assigned yet: TE Lincoln Coleman (6-5, 240) - Shreveport, La. OL Mason Jennings (5-7, 190) - Midland (Culver), Texas RB Tony Lauria (5-8, 170) - Coral Gables (Ransom), Fla. RB Matt McGrath (5-9, 180) - Long Grove (Adlai Stevenson), Ill. DB Bryan Myers (5-10, 175) - Burridge (Culver), Ill.
Re: Walk-onsA 6-5 240lb Defensive End? Give that guy a scholarship, he might need to start this year.
Re: Walk-onsMore than that, where did we get a 5-9, 216-pound OL?
Or how about that 5-7, 190-pound OL? Lincoln Coleman sounds like he fills out a uniform....
Re: Walk-onsGod, I LOVE seeing mostly Texas kids on there! Coach B.'s strategy is continuing to work! GO MUSTANGS!

Re: Walk-onswhat position is 'DS'
Re: Walk-onsDeep Snapper. I had to ask too.
Re: Walk-onsHow did a 6'5" 239-pound DE not get a scholarship somewhere? I doubt Coach Bennett would welcome him based on his dimensions alone. Surely he can play a little, right? Maybe we've uncovered a real gem here. Let's hope so.
Re: Walk-onsWell, he obviously isnt turning kids away because of dimensions either. My guess on this kid is that Red Oak is a small school that doesnt attract many recruiters. And with Johnny Fitzgerald from there, we probably had an inside track on the guy with
his coach etc.
Re: Walk-onsIf this Pryor kid has any quickness, he could turn out to be a steal.
Re: Walk-onsSeems like we talked about Poynter, Simmons and Johnson during the recruiting season. Weren't these guys recruited by other schools? For them to walk-on says a lot for our program.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Walk-onsAnyone know which of these are preffered walk on or the grey shirt VS just walk on?
Re: Walk-onsDoes anyone know how the number (and/or quality) of walk-ons compares with years past?
Re: Walk-onsAs far as I remember, we didn't have more than a handful of walk ons last year, Fitzgerald being the only gem.
Re: Walk-onsAndrew Feige is a monster, from what I hear. Isn't he a champion wrestler? He's a little smaller than the ideal DT, but he's supposed to be unbelievably strong, and a real scrappy brawler type.
Re: Walk-onsthe odds are that one or two of these guys will step up and earn a scholarship before he's done. Wasn't Bischoff a walk-on LB 3 yrs ago? Looks like there are 3-4 good candidates.
