Starting Lineups - 2008Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Starting Lineups - 2008I know it's still a pretty premature topic given the needs that will be addressed through recruiting, but does anyone have projections as to what we'll look like on both sides of the ball next year? Seems like we lost more than a handfull of starters.
Derail the Frogs!
It will actually by interesting to see how guys like DeVon Bailey and Derrius Bell do this year. The previous coaching staff was so bent on playing experience over talent. Tyler Jones played pretty well at the end of the year, but he only saw time once some of the other guys get hurt. I'm also excited to see a healthy Rock Dennis at safety this year. Chris Butler should have a good year as well.
Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.
Potential is nothing, performance is everything.
I agree Georgia. I think Butler has a great deal of potential, and I feel Bell was greatly underused.
I really think that our success next year will depend on how quickly our players buy into JJ. And let's face it....that should not take too long.

This goes with that "2008 record" thread...
Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
On a side note, don't be surprise to see this freak of nature doing kickoffs... I heard the new ST coach (Morrison, right?) has taken a liking. Sir, shooting-star, sir.

Jordan Johnson was just about to bust loose until he got hurt again late in the year-I'd really be surprised if he doesn't start next year. I wonder if Josh Robinson might have a shot. Hopefully some of the redshirts will make a move like Bradley Haynes, of course Lereibus. I tell ya Jamell Kenedy has just the type of skills that fit perfectly at the Inside Receiver spot in the Run and Shoot.
He has enough trouble holding onto interceptions for touchdowns, let's not give him an extra thing to worry about. That being said, I'd really like to see someone other than Sanders return punts. Too much room for injury. Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.

Is there room for a guy like Will Bonilla in mustangnation's suggested lineup? He may not be the biggest or most talented guy on the field, but he plays with heart. I think if we had more pieces around him, he would round out the defense nicely. Just thinking that we have a lot of other holes to fill, and that Bonilla made some plays last season.
And what about Andrew McKinney? We've talked about him at DE or maybe even MLB in other threads.
Thought he was going to be a senior this coming year. Couple folks apparently said they had talked to him at/after the Jones Press Conference as well and he was talking about next season. Haven't heard anything about him leaving/transferring.
Givens is no longer a student at SMU. He will be enrolling at UTEP ASAP. Don't ask me anymore about this, because it pisses me off to even think about it. Over and done!
Andrew McKinney is still at SMU and ready to roll.
So you've eliminated Bryce Hudman and Tyler Jones from the starting lineup for two guys who never started (and one who never took a snap) at SMU? I'm sure Bailey and Dennis can play, but .... interesting move. I'd like to see Anthony Sowe and Patrick Strodtman in the LB rotation somewhere. Mapps starting over Martin and Butler? Sean Lobo is booted from the lineup in your prediction? Interesting. Can you elaborate?
