Does Phillip Burley see significant time?

I honestly would love to see Burley begin to show flashes of that 3 star ranking.

I agree but my only concern is whether Phil Bennett got him to bulk up to handle the Tight End move.

I really hope the mustache didn't screw this kid up making him a tight end last season. If Phil did bulk him up I predict he will be moved to DE along with Bobby Chase. Otherwise he should have some success in this offense because he had decent speed.

Huh? Bobby Chase was a senior in 2006 and he never played any defense for us.

I'm not so worried about Burley having been asked to add a few pounds to play TE — the strength and conditioning staff can shave those pounds off him, if Coach Jones wants them to. I'm more curious to know about his knee that was ripped up last year. He was never a burner, right? If he's at 4.6 or 4.7, why not try him at outside linebacker?

if the kid can hit somebody, why not outside linebacker . . . but speed and size a defensive player does not make. (but it sure does help!)

Obviously he meant Vinnie.

Or maybe we missed the rule that you can come back on the other side of the ball for four more years!

I think he meant Bobby but that was under a different coach. My point with Phillip was that Jones is known for turning tight ends into DE's. I wouldn't be surprised to see Vincent change positions as well. Either add weight and become a OT or move to the defensive side.

I really hope Vincent is successful this year regardless of the position Jones places him in. He deserves it after having so much talent wasted his first 3 years here under PB. The guy could have gone anywhere to play.

I think Phillip's lack of playing time had more to do with a bum knee -- and maybe coming back a bit slow to be effective at WR -- than anyone's facial hair. I think the idea was that if he was indeed slowed, then just adding a few pounds to his frame would make him fit as a receiving TE.

He's another intriguing story line... Will be interesting to see how the new regime evaluates him.

While I have always been one to pile on PB for the way he used (or didn't use) his TEs, Vinny Chase was often a space cadet last season. Lots of drops and missed blocking assignments for someone that is expected to be a stud TE.
