DMN article

Pretty comprehensive article that isn't nearly as venomous as the Tyler paper.

For $2 million per year, we should have faith that June Jones can judge a players ability to be a D-1 football player.

I thought Sherrington did a nice job playing it down the middle. I said last week, recruiting is a two-way street. This, too, shall pass. Nice to see Mike Owens has been consistent with his flawed thinking.

not sure he played this down the middle. sounds more of an attack on SMU and Sherrington hedged it a few times as to not make it look to negative....

Dodge did the same thing last year at UNT to 2 players, there was a news story about it and it was "discussed" on here.

to my surprise, they supported SMU in the decision. Saying that this happens all the time, and that this was really no big deal. kids change their minds all the time - teams can do the same.

I sure hope Coach Owens, never has a kid that is a great player but under appreciated by Rivals and others and sees that he would be a good fit at SMU. I recall when I coached youth basketball, I had a player that played HS football and led the metro DC area in touchdowns his junior year. One week into his senior season, the school discovered that there was a transcript problem (not of his own doing) from when he transferred into the school and a residency issue (again not of his own doing). He was declared ineligible and could not play his senior season. Back then, recruiting was not as sophisticated as today. His coach called college coaches all over the country to try and place this kid and I called Bobby Collins to see if he knew of any SWC schools that were short of running backs. He was finally admitted to a great junior college program and got hurt, but got his degree. But had that high school coach not maintained relations with all of the college coaches that came to his school, the kid never would have gone anywhere. Its a two way street.

This is such a non-issue. Orsini even sent a letter saying the new coach may not honor the commitment. The reason no one told the kid sooner is we did not have a coach until recently and it takes the coach time to get adjusted and look at the current players. The kid will probably be better off going somewhere else where he is wanted. I am sick of this cry baby crap. I am sure he could get a chance to walk on if he is so damn interested in playing at SMU. His coach can take his 'tough talk' and stick it up his rear for all I care. By not letting SMU come to his high school he is only hurting his players.

Agreed. this is a case of a bitter kid (sort of understandable) and it's blown out of proportion b/c his highschool coach got involved and started writing letters.

Tired of talking about this. Tired of reading about this. If the kid is good enough to play college football, some program, some where is going to pick him up. If I were him, I'd rather go to a place where I feel like I will get the chance to play vs. riding the pine and feeling like my scholarship was only honored because it would have been bad press to not honor it.

He needs to move on, Mike Owens needs to move on, and we need to move on. Period. And Owens, next time one of your kids de-commits to a program, you remember to use some of this big talk right now about how sorry SMU was to this kid for not honoring their commitments or STFU!

I heard that. When the Ticket agrees with us, you know we're on the right side of things. Though I imagine that they smell the change on the Hilltop and are ready to support a winner over there.
