Take it for what it's worth...I don't know how accurate this info is.

Back to the issue at hand. My initial reaction: the guy who's been LB coach at Fresno State for the last 7 years? Seriously? That's the best we could do?

Bio reposted:

Coaching Career
Joined the Bulldog coaching staff in 2001 after spending one season as linebackers coach with the Las Vegas Outlaws of the XFL ... in his seventh season with Fresno State ... Bulldog linebackers have been a strength on the team ever since his arrival ... in 2006, Mason coached Dwayne Andrews into a premier linebacker in the WAC, earning First Team All-WAC honors ... in 2005 Andrews was named to the second team All-WAC ... Andrews finished in the top 10 in the WAC in tackles with 87... in 2004 sophomore Marcus Riley was leading the team in tackles and on his way to All-WAC status before being injured against USC and missing the final two WAC games ... a key part of the Bulldog defense that has led the WAC in each of the last two seasons ... Fresno State's linebackers corps was a question mark heading into the 2004 season but developed into one of the best in the WAC on the league's top defense ... three Bulldogs - Dwayne Andrews, Todd Garcia and Manual Sanchez - were selected honorable mention All-WAC ... the Bulldog defense led the WAC in total defense, turnover margin, scoring defense, pass efficiency defense and pass defense ... the Bulldogs held opponents to less than 20 points per game in a conference that averaged 39 points per game per team ... in 2003, he helped keep the line playing well despite injuries to starters David Adamo and Marc Dailey ... he also helped tutor Bryce McGill, a first-team All-WAC selection in 2003 who was regarded as one of the top linebackers in the league ... Mason was integral in the development of McGill, who did not become a linebacker until midway through the 2002 campaign but still was a second-team all-conference pick that season ... in 2002, Mason was able to patch together a linebacking corps that was riddled with significant injuries that caused the conversion of starting strong safety McGill ... under Mason's watch, each of the starting linebackers earned All-WAC honors in 2001. Maurice Rodriguez was a second-team pick while Marc Dailey and Sam Williams, an NFL draftee by the Oakland Raiders, were honorable mention selections ... took over for Dan Brown, who became Fresno State's defensive coordinator prior to the 2001 season ... prior to coming to Fresno State, he spent time in the professional ranks, serving as the receivers coach for the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League and as defensive backs coach for the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe ... has a multitude of experience coaching at the collegiate level, including serving as defensive coordinator at Nevada during the 1999 season ... was the secondary coach at Nevada from 1998-99 ... served as defensive coordinator at Northern Iowa (1997-98) and Boise State (1993-96) ... helped coordinate a Broncos defense that reached the 1994 NCAA Division I-AA national championship game ... was BSU's interim head coach from August through November 1996 ... was the defensive coordinator at Portland State from 1982-86, helping lead the Vikings to four playoff appearances and two national championship games ... served as the linebackers coach at Eastern Washington from 1981-85 ... was the defensive line coach at Walla Walla (Wash.) Community College from 1978-80.

Athletics Career
Began his career as a student-athlete as a linebacker at Idaho ... transferred to Walla Walla (Wash.) Community College for the 1975 season ... finished out his playing career at Nevada from 1976-77.

Is there a link to a newspaper or other media outlet (not to disrespect message boards, of course, but that came from an anonymous fan's post) reporting this?

It came from JJ's mouth. You will just have to trust those of us who heard it until the formal announcement is made. JJ asked that it not be made public but the MM guys heard it and ran with it. There will also be a special teams coach but he is not under contract yet.
