"The curriculum is expanding because the university wants to do that," Orsini said. "We're adding back a School of Education, which we had before. It's not just for athletics, if that's what anybody wants to imply. Will offering more majors help athletics? Of course it will. We'll offer kinesiology and teaching certification that offers the possibility to be a coach, and that's attractive to athletes."

McIlhenny put it more succinctly. "They're considering a curriculum for a degree path that you don't have to be a rocket scientist," he said.

haha i thought that was funny

But Todd Baty, a senior history major from Dallas who writes for a campus newspaper called Hilltopics, wasn't as enthusiastic. "I think he's overpaid," he said. "Two million dollars a year can be spent a lot better ways. I have nothing against football or June Jones as an individual, and he seems like a great football coach. But I feel $2 million is a lot of money that can be spent in more meaningful ways on this campus.

"People will come out of the woodwork if athletics needs money, but the university honors program needs more money and is still underfunded."

Come on Todd. The honors program? Seriously? That was mostly a waste of my time. Get real. I'm sure this guy is a decent human being, but clueless. This is what 20 years of horrible revenue sports has wrought on this University.

Wish they would have had kinesiology when I was there. Everything gets better after I leave....facilities, adademic programs, etc. At least we are finally trying to play on on the same field as everyone else.

The hiliberal topics is a rag published weekly by the university honors program, and the mustang post is the right wing version, not produced by the university honors program.

They both are terrible to read, and need to be funded less.

Anybody else see this? It's supposedly in the January 31st issue of the Mustang Post: "Also in this issue: A recap of the 1982 Mustang football team's amazing 11-0-1 season as seen on film, including the team's legitimate claim on a national championship that goes unrecognized."

As seen on what film? Anybody have a copy of the article?

Is he aware that the coach's salary is being funded by donors? They are contributing money specifically to pay a football coach. If he wants more money for the honors program, he needs to graduate, put his degree to good use, and donate millions to the honors program himself.

I believe you seek to find intelligence where there is none. This "writer" can only suggest that the money, which was specifically donated for football, be used to satisfy his personal needs. Perhaps if he played football he would support the money being used there. Perhaps if rode in women's equestrian he would cry that the noble sport of riding horses, and it is noble, has once again not received its due. Any authority he seeks to establish is undermined by his own ignorance and love of only those activities which include himself. I would traditionally suggest seppuku, but such an honorable end would be more than he deserves.
