What's Bo Mitchell doing on the weekends?

Postby RGV Pony » Thu Feb 28, 2008 6:47 pm

What are the NCAA rules on a kid who isn't enrolled in school? How much contact can the coaches have with him? I'm guessing it would be frowned upon to have Mustang1 fly him back and forth from Houston on the weekends for cram sessions with JJ, but at what point can he interact?

If by frowned upon you mean sanctionable.

I worked in the athletic department when I was a student at SMU.

As far as spring practice, the newly signed players can not get ANY special treatment by the coaching staff. By that I mean flying the players up, special coaching sessions or the like.

When I was at SMU, our signees would come watch spring practice and that was ok as long as it was their idea and they drove themselves.

Thanks.

I would think it would be OK to give them a voluntary suggested work out plan so they could work out on their own. anyone know?

Can we mail him a playbook so he can start there?

I know that when a friend of mine signed with LSU a couple of years ago, they sent him a 3-ring binder with the workouts they wanted him to do until he got on campus. I would bet that most teams do something similar to help get the players in shape before they get to campus.
Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.
