Don't believe the hype about Ray-Ray being mistreated here. He remains on scholarship and is taking a heavy course load (that does not need to be burdened further by spring practice) and is on a course to graduate by August...at which time he will reportedly be offered a position in Clemon's Athletic Dept. A trust fund was established and the community raised well over 6 figures to help support the younger brother's needs (which the Trustee will undoubtedly conclude should include decent housing). Ray Ray wasn't going to play, so why work your tail off practicing football when you have more important responsibilities?

I don't understand the anger. I sympathize with the guy for being thrust with having to take care of his younger brother, but in no way should that effect how a team is managed. There are plenty of other deserving kids out there, and if it means dropping his scholarship they are well within their rights.

They are even giving him a position that would give him equal benefits, so what exactly is the problem there. They had no obligation to do that either other than being blitzed by the media, which is happening anyways.

But if the guy increased his course load so that he could use his scholarship to get a graduate degree as well as his undergrad, and then Bowden yanked the rug out from under him, I would say that is a bit shady.

Looks like Bowden's Dad at Florida State also yanked a scholarship...and this was done VERY clumsily!

[quote]I am appalled at the fact that the coaches of these two big name programs are sacrificing at all costs to win. Unlike Ray Ray (who seems to have straightened himself out) Geoff has no blemishes on his academic, athletic, and social reputations. He has a 3.02 GPA, was awarded all ACC academic honors as well as Dean’s list for the 2006-2007 school year. The only practices he has ever missed were due to the unexpected deaths of his grandfather and his best friend’s father. He lost the most weight of all of the offensive linemen when Trickett demanded they slim down, he was not involved in the cheating scandal that recently rocked our athletic program, and he has never missed a summer of “optionalâ€
