Kenard Burley

Forgot to mention Kenard Burley was out there at practice yesterday, too. Said he's in heavy training for the pros - he said he had a good Pro Day, and weighed in yesterday at 331 pounds (it's hard to say someone who weighs 331 looks "slim," but Burley might be the most in-shape looking 330-pounder I've ever seen, and that includes countless interviews in NFL locker rooms).

Burley said training for the pros is "completely different" than training to play collegiate football, because everything he has done is predicated on speed and quickness. He has worked on strength, but most of what he has been working on revolves around speed and quickness, his vertical leap, etc. - trying to build explosiveness. He said he doesn't know if he'll be drafted, but he thinks he'll either be drafted in the later rounds or get a free-agent look. He said he has heard from several teams, with the most consistent interest being shown by the Dallas Cowboys, Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints.

Any word on if he brother is ever going to play for SMU? Didn't he tear up a knee in the infamous Phil Bennett "Pony Bowl" after the 2006 season?

Yes, his brother hurt a knee. He's good to go now and will play this fall.

Was he able to practice at all during the spring? I don't remember seeing him at the spring "game".

Grade check midway through Spring Football force a few players back into study hall. Phillip was one of the casualties.
He's shown improvement and will give it a go this August.
