When can we buy tickets for the Tech game?

Not sure when SMU will start their allotment, but Tech single game tickets go on sale July 28. I imagine going through Tech or SMU will be around the same day. Dial 1 800 GO BIG 12 or go to texastech.com and follow the Tickets link on the left.

Here is a link to a map of The Jones. http://texastech.cstv.com/auto_pdf/p_ho ... ix-pricing

The visitor section isn't very good. If you want to buy a better seat, try to get the press box side. It is the non rowdy side. They are loud, just not rowdy. That is our "blue hair" section. If you are a visitor, you want to avoid the student section. However, a lot of visitiors, especially Aggies, with no problems. I sit in 121 and the only problem I've seen with was when Sooners tried to sit in the student section. In 4 years of being a season ticket holder in sect 121, I've seen 2 instances of a drunk fan being rude and the rest of us ran the rude Tech fan out.

Plus Gerald Myers beefed up police and they will eject anyone fans complain about and do it quickly.

So come on out. Enjoy yourself.

Parking. You can park in some southwest lots for free. Follow the crowds and RVs. You can tailgate and mooch off of Red Raiders tailgaiting. Visitors are always welcome. FOr $5 a person, you can ride a citi bus to the stadium. Or you can walk about 2 miles for free, however, Raider Alley cuts the walk to the game. It is just a gathering place before the game, where you can buy food, listen to music, etc. Some churches a block or so east of the stadium allows you to park for $5. Then you only have a mile or so to walk. If you do that, there are shops on your way in and eateries on your way out to cut down the walk. Remember in West Texas, 2 miles is always walking distance. 8)

Be careful about parking on the street these days. I used to back in the day but with all the construction, I fear being towed or damaged. I park at a church and pay the $5.

Mesquites BBQ is just off University and good food but usually crowded and service is iffy. Gardsky's Loft is on Broadway, a mile or so east of campus. It is typically standard place to eat but the only one and gives a uniquely Lubbock feel.

Oh, there is a lot of construction going on in Lubbock and a lot of out of town workers take up hotel rooms. So if it is anywhere near a sell out, you better have reservations before hand.

If you have young kids, Tech is probably not the best venue to take them to. Agree not all fans are bad, but unless it has really changed there will be things said and thrown that may be hard to explain to them.

I should hope not for their sake.

Buy your tickets thru SMU and sit with the rest of the Ponies.

That won't help. The Techsters nearby target the SMU section with profane "cheers."

That's fine, I'll be packing my own tortillas in self defense.

I still can't figure out how Tech got so uppity....in the olden days they were barely a nuisance.

Agreed, Tech fans are well known to steal the sake of children.

Perhaps they are so bitter because they have a grand total of one football conference championship in the history of the school....and it was a 5-way tie in 94. Just for the record, we won 10 SWC championships.

Every team that has won a championship has had the best team money can buy. As a case in point I give you Kansas.

My theory is that they are bitter because many that go to Tech are attending their "safety school." They didn't get accepted to UT, A&M, SMU, TCU, etc, so they are p!ssed off. Now since they are at Tech the outlet for their rejection to their first choice school is to direct vile and hatred at those who did not accept them.

Interesting that we won the 1938 SWC championship in fencing. Was not aware that we participated in that sport.

You would think A&M would always be first in fencing. Got to keep those cattle from running away. But then again, they were not coed in 1938.

Interesting theory. I think that is the same for people who are fans of Tech but didn't actually go there. For instance, my brother-in-law has always been a Tech fan but didn't end up going there. I asked him why and his answer was mainly because he didn't want to be like everyone else and pull for UT, A&M, or OU.

I think all their fans have a chip on their shoulder because they think they are slighted by the other Big 12 schools. Well, if they won a Big 12 Championship for once, maybe you will start getting respect. Heck, take the Big 12 South for once.
