You would think we would learn from the past.

the reason that the Head Coaches in Texas-all of them-support the THSCA All-Star Game is because the football game and basketball game are a major fundraising vehicle for Texas High School Coaches. A&M has 8 kids in the game.

Not bad considering JJ had about 3 days to recruit.

It just seems like ours keep breaking when they play.

I'm so glad that you said that. Evan was chosen to play in the All Star game here and I was so worried that he might get hurt. Now that he is coming to SMU for summer school he won't be able to participate in the game. As much as I would have liked to have watched one more high school football game, I am relieved that it has worked out this way. :D

Whether it is this year or next, we need Evan to get ready for the big time. Glad he is not playing in his All Star game. He has plenty of time to gain fame in the future.

Mrs H, All Star games are a little bit of a sore subject around SMU because we've had several of our better players get seriously hurt in all star games. I think our latest casualty was Zach Rhodes who injured his shoulder (not sure).

Evan is going to do plenty off arsekicking around here to make up for the missed allstar game :D

Yup - it's true.

Looks like Taylor Thompson gets one last hurrah at tight end before becoming a superstar defensive end at SMU.

Still doesn't make it a good thing for the players. I see nothing good coming from these games. Nearly seven months removed from the regular season and just before August practices, there is nothing, and I mean nothing, to be gained from playing.

Why do we call it an honor when it is really a fundraising event? This isn't the senior bowl, a chance to showcase for the pros, nor the pro bowl (both a reward for a job well done during regular season). This is simply selfish coaches pushing a meaningless game with only a downside to the players.

Goodwill from the Texas High School Coaches-don't want to screw with that-we've seen how well that worked out in BB. Its a burden spread around to all Texas schools and it ain't going to change-so you might as well deal with it. Not the end of the world.

I don't know about that. Let's see the injury report after the game. It very well could be the end of the world for some poor kid. Seems to me that I recall discussion on this board before about the bigger schools who do not let their recruits play in these games. I doubt it hurts their recruiting ability in Texas.

No recruit has to play in the game if they don't want to. Here's how to make sure they don't play in All-Star Games although they might get hurt in Spring Practice-Of course, more at UT will enroll during summer:

Otherwise signing day should offer no big surprises for the Longhorns, who already have nine recruits enrolled for the spring semester. They are: Running back Jeremy Hills (Elsik), offensive lineman Mark Buchanan (Austin), wide receiver Dan Buckner (Allen), wide receiver Brock Fitzhenry (Giddings), safety Blake Gideon (Leander), linebacker Dravannti Johnson (Nederland), running back Tre Newton (Southlake Carroll), offensive lineman David Snow (Gilmer) and kicker Justin Tucker (Austin Westlake

Personally, I have always advocated full speed and let the chips fall where they may, but with our lack of depth and continual run of bad luck with injuries, I would prefer they stay out. I would like to see us reach a time that we could practice full speed and if someone goes down, the next one steps up and nothing is lost.
