SMU Nite @ Rangers Game Wednesday, JJ Throws 1st Pitch!Alright, Ponyfans! Now's our chance to REALLY get some great publicity for the Mustangs during the 'off season'! Show up at the Rangers game this Wednesday wearing your 'S.M.U.' gear! Check out this announcement from www.smu.edu. and the Texas Rangers, the hottest team in the American League right now!!!
Mustangs faculty, students, and alumni are encouraged to attend SMU Night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Wednesday, June 4 at 7:05 p.m. New SMU football coach June Jones will be throwing out the first pitch prior to the game. It is also Dollar Hot Dog Night and Dr. Pepper Autograph Wednesday as the Texas Rangers face the Cleveland Indians. Discounted tickets are available for this special night for all faculty, students, alumni, friends, and family. Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the ticket windows. To order your tickets, visit www.texasrangers.com/b2b and use SMU as your passcode, download and mail the online order form, or call 817-273-5173.
As a former QB, I bet Coach Jones throws a 98-MPH heater down the middle.
Don't let the Rangers sign him.
Re: SMU Nite @ Rangers Game Wednesday, JJ Throws 1st Pitch!
Sorry MM65, I'd go see him throw out a pitch at the AirHogs game, but I wouldn't spend a dime at Turnpike Stadium. Count me as donating the $15 parking fee, the $25 ticket, the $20 worth of concessions and the gas money to attend such a soiree to the Mustang Club (not Tom Hick). Nice gesture on the part of the Arlington team, though.

So I take it you are not particularly fond of Mr. Hicks? ![]() _____________________________________

Re: SMU Nite @ Rangers Game Wednesday, JJ Throws 1st Pitch!I understand, Bergermeister. I'm not particularly fond of Mr. Hicks, either. But I will probably only attend two Rangers games this year and this will be one of them. And I've already made my contribution to the Mustang Club for this year. If you order your tickets online, you can get a parking voucher for $10 (unfortunately, I don't drive a Lexus). Tickets for Wednesday's game are about 50% off.
Not even JJ could get me to make a 70 mile round-trip drive to sit in the sweatbox that is that stadium for 3+ hours. The Rangers are playing well (and Josh Hamilton is un-freaking-believeable), but I think I'll pass on this one.
Call me up when they put a dome on that thing and I'll be there.
A dome?????? ![]()
Fine, retractable roof...look at the crowd out there today - it's a total beatdown to watch a game in that stadium. The heat in July-August I think is as much of a reason as any in why this team (the Rangers) always fall apart later in the season. This is the hottest climate in the majors not to have a retractable roof/domed stadium. Miami is also undomed (but more tropical than just HOT), and look at how poorly that place draws...if the fans are uncomfortable they won't come even to watch good baseball. Football is different as it is a fall/winter sport.
Yeah, the 'eye candy' out there today is very nice! Listen...the hottest game (of any sport) I ever sat through was in September 2000 at the opening of Ford Stadium. Nothing has ever been that hot nor (hopefully!) will be again! Sitting at a daytime game at Rangers Stadium would be just fine with me. However, the majority of the Rangers games are at night, not daytime games, so I disagree with the 'heat factor' on the team's past failures. And I am as much against 'retractable roofs' as I am domed stadiums. Miami doesn't draw fans because the Florida Marlins aren't that good. ![]()
Take a look at the World Series winners over the last 15 years and the standing this year.... Also, 7 pm in Texas is still pretty damn hot...even at 10 pm it can be 90+ in the summer. And while it is hot in the early football games, it's typically only the very first week (or maybe 2) that get so hot...and it's also football, which is always going to draw better than baseball (especially in the South).
