Many of us assume Justin Smart will start in the middle, and lots of us have bought into the Alex Odiari talk at strongside linebacker. But I've talked with a few people much closer to the program than I can ever be who say that the most impressive specimen just might be ... Victor Jones.
The only one I've seen is Smart. If someone is more physically impressive than he is, the entire face of the defense has changed.

Even if Victor Jones is more impressive physically, he still doesn't have any college experience. Odiari has prior game experience with a Big XII program, and even though Smart didn't play LB last year, he still knows what to expect from a college game. Who knows though, Victor may emerge as a stud early on.

True, but Odiari didn't play a lot, did he?
Whatever, I'm thrilled to have him, and for what it's worth, I've heard similar descriptions of Victor Jones.

From what I hear from people on the inside:
Smart will be MLB,
Odari will be SLB,
Bonilla will be WLB
That makes Fleps and Jones the odd men out. However, in the BUC package, Fleps would be inserted and one of the DL would come out

I have heard similar things regarding V. Jones as well. Here is my prediction.
Smat MLB
Odiari SLB
V. Jones and Bonilla with compete for WLB

Safe to say more than 5 LBs get playing time, because of injuries, performance, scheming for different offenses, etc.

I vote we find some guys who can tackle and put them in there. We gave up 1,649 yards to NTSU before halftime last year for godsake.

I really like Bonilla as a person and player - but I think he is at risk next year - big time. He just is not D-1 size.

What about Robert Parker, the LB/DE guy from Humble?

I heard that kid was also really phyically impressive at 6-0 225 and runs a 4.5 40 with around a 40 inch vertical. I guess we will have to see how fall pratice goes.

I think you will see a lot of 2 lLB sets anyway...

I think you'll see mostly 1-ILB sets. The difference is there will be a lot of sets with 3 down linemen and 3 LBs ... and 5 DBs.
Previous coaches have talked about it and never really did it much. Let's hope.

Smat MLB
Is that what the running back is going to look like after Sma
rt hits him?
