Mustangs Played Their Hearts Out!!

I think that anyone who saw the U of H /SMU game will say, "Way to go Mustang players" !! Thier play against U of Houston was great! There was focus, intensity, the coaches let the offense play a wide open game - everything was left on the field!! SMU controlled the second half! The defense was awesome!

From where I sat, we did get a safety on U of H!! I did not understand that call - a poor one in my book. When time ran out it should have been a tie game!

But, could we have been ahead at the end of the game?? I wonder about the decision to pass the ball three times on first and goal when we were on the Cougars 3 yard line. Briggs had been running so well. Briggs had an awesome night - no U of H first tackle got him, he was breaking tackles everywhere!

Also, I do wish we had gone for the first down at the end of the gameinstead of the field goal - it was a hard f.g. to make, I repeat, Briggs was breaking tackles and running very well.

But, ,my main point is the play of the team! GREAT!!!! U of H has a good QB and some really great recievers. They are explosive. SMU's defense played hard! The offense really moved the ball - mixing things up and utilizing more players. It was a very good game for the Mustsangs and really should have been tied! We did get that safety!

The team should work hard this week , keep up the intesity - San Jose is very tough, and will be favored to win. How about an upset. Make it happen!!!!

This was our best 4 quarters of football this season.

We play like this the rest of the year we will have a winning record.

Keep that offense wide open--and defense, keep it up!

I agree 100%, Mustang Mom! It was a safety!! I have noticed this on tv, also. They need to go ahead and change the rule to make it more accurate to how the officials call it.

New Rule: "A safety is worth 2 points and is to be called when the offensive player is tackled AT LEAST 4 YARDS OR MORE in his own endzone."

I talked to the players who made the tackle after the game. They couldn't believe it. They said he never got close to the goalline. They told the officials and they just took the ball, walked two yards back to the goalline, and placed it on the 6 inch line.

And another thing; What does it take to get a turnover? Give me a break! We go two weeks and the opposition does not turn it over. It is time for us to get some good breaks and it is going to start a little after 6pm this Saturday!

I was right behind you, Graypony, it was a safety. My brother was with me, and he was biased, but we got Ripped a couple of times. There was no way we were going to win at Houston. The pass to J Freeman was evidence enough. They weren't going to let SMU win at a Conf USA game. Our kids played their hearts out and were cut short. The referees know just when to call a penalty, to make it look o.k. I didn't see a flag till after that play, maybe I missed it, but I'll never believe it. We played good enough to win!!!
