Former Texas Longhorn, suspended player plead guilty

AUSTIN – Two former Texas football players pleaded guilty Thursday to robbery charges, a Travis County prosecutor said.

Robert Joseph, who served as a safety, and Andre Jones, a defensive tackle, each pleaded guilty to a felony charge of robbery. Each faces up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, although probation is also an option, said Buddy Meyer, an assistant district attorney in Travis County.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 14 in Judge Brenda Kennedy's court, Meyer said.

The two were arrested in connection with a July 2007 home invasion that also allegedly involved running back and safety James Henry, who was indicted for knowingly destroying or concealing stolen items. Henry has not entered a plea but will make a court appearance July 18, Meyer said.

Henry and Jones were suspended last year and have not participated in any team activities since. Jones will not be reinstated because he pleaded guilty to a felony, athletic department spokesman John Bianco said.

Joseph was kicked off the team last year after his arrest on a separate burglary charge in June.

A little late on that news, IPP. I expected you to be all over this. ;) Where's LonghornFan68 when you need him?

A good crook doesn't get caught.

I would think UT pays enough that their players should not have to resort to a life of crime.

Maybe its time to reevaluate their player salaries down in Austin.

Actually, to be a crook, you have to not just be good, but perfect. That's what I always told my kids. Hey, if you want to be a crook go ahead but you better be perfect and you ain't perfect. Its harder to be a criminal than an honest person. If you're honest you can be as big a screw-up as there is, and everyone will forgive that. That was one of the few messages that actually got through.
