from the DMN:

The Battle for the Iron Skillet will run through at least 2017.

SMU has extended its football series with rival TCU, which will continue for the next 10 years. The Mustangs also announced a four-game home-and-home series with Navy (2015-2018) and two home games with Stephen F. Austin (2009, 2012).

Series with Baylor and North Texas have already been announced by those schools.

Since we have filled up the non conference with Toads, NTSU and Baylor I would really like to see a good paycheck game against an OU, Aggies, LSU, Texas etc..It would also give June the chance to make the front page of alot of sport pages in a few years. I am not sure what Navy brings to the table. Just my opinion

Now this is a schedule announcement of significance! We should play our natural rival every year.

Any of the service academies bring a built in fan base, you will sell some tickets with navy on the schedule.

Navy will be fun; they'll bring a shootload of fans and even some planes.

Our Schedule may suck but it is designed to maximize revenue. Its getting just about impossible to get home and home series with the big BCS schools with huge stadiums. We can have a realistic shot of winning these games w/o playing the WhatsaMatter Us of the world. Plus an SMU fan can now easily make about 9-10 games a year home and away.

I think this is great and all - should provide a nice one sided rivalry sfor the poor teachers college - so they can keep their hate and envy going on over there while we yawn in their face - but now that we have the purple haze, teaching school and Wackos all scheduled - it would be nice if we would add in schools that would be REAL rivalries for the UNIVERSITY - with a look to the future - Vandy, Wake, Duke, UNC - and since the school is trying to get more interest going in the East - maybe a BC or something to remind them we are down here

Vandy would be a pretty cool series.

those games make ZERO sense-fly across the country-pay a huge travel bill and get poor attendance. I too would like a more challenging series though with a national BCS school but not those schools. Send our Debate team instead-those games will NEVER EVER be a rivalry as you claim. If your going to play one-then Vandy would be best.

I don't think we should stack up the schedule with them - but a Vandy or Stanford or Wake every other year would be a fun home and away - we need to schedule a few games with the lower end of the BCS teams that have similar aspects to SMU - urban, private, and academic. Just to mix it up a bit. We have the local, crappy schools well covered now.

I know it would not help with the attendence but it would help with other "branding" issues.

From our own experience, about 7-8000 extra butts in the seats and a nice flyover.

I want to play Ole Miss... not too far, both teams' fans will travel, & two top-notch boulevard scenes
