Fun to imagine all the conference shifting that would follow, but probably unlikely. It doesn't make sense for a BCS conference to add low-tier schools just to create a championship game. THe ACC and Big Ten only expanded because they were adding schools like Miami, VTech, BC, and Penn State. Even then, the ACC championship game has not done well (Georgia Tech vs. Wake Forest anyone?), and adding a championship game does not guarantee greater profit. (ie. a TV network probably would not pay top dollar to broadcast a BYU-Arizona championship game...bad for selling advertisements on TV)

If we were to join a BCS conference it would be the SEC not the Pac 10 or Big 12.

Why not the Big XII? They have 4 TX schools....it's a logical geographical fit...

I would love to see UT go to the Pac -10 and A&M to the SEC which should have happened in 1995 but not for the Texas legislature. That would create some fun and probably land us in the Big 12 or maybr even the SEC.

Championship games are part of a multi-year contract, and as such are not sold on the basis of who is in them. A network would have no idea which teams would be in the championship when they signed a contract to broadcast it. Championship games are lucrative for conferences, the evidence for that can be seen in that every conference wants to reach 12. Do you think the Big 12's contract is small on the basis that there is the possibility that Baylor and Iowa State could end up in an undesireable championship game? Championship games bring more money.

If the PAC10 expanded they would go after Colorado and Utah. BYU would be the only 3rd option. UNLV and Nevada are not options for the forseeable future.

Slightly off topic, but did anyone read down further about the playoff "pratfalls", as they called it? They lumped in the Stars playoff loss to that of the Cowboys and Mavs. Umm, yeah, the Stars went to the Western Conference finals as a lower seed, so I would say that wasn't a playoff blunder at all. What a moron.

03Mustang,

Take a midol bro. The SEC is the most logical fit for SMU in a BCS conference. Will it happen? Of course not. But if we're playing fun hypotheticals then so be it. The SEC would love to have a foothold in the Dallas media market (as insignificant as SMU is in Dallas it would still be exposure in Texas). The Big 12 has a major presence in Dallas with OU, Texas, A&M, Tech, OSU having big alumni bases in Dallas. The PAC 10 would never consider SMU neither would the Big 10.

I don't know about that. BYU has an ever-growing nationwide (and worldwide) fan base, good football tradition, and travels well. Even though BYU is in Provo, they control the Salt Lake City market. I see the PAC10 going after BYU and CU, then going after Utah if they cannot convince CU to leave the Big XII. I agree with you on UNLV and UNR.

That is an interesting proposition. Never really considered the idea that the PAC 10 would take a school from a BCS conference. Not sure Colorado would go though. But it would raise an interesting question as to who the Big XII would get as a replacement.

Colorado would LOVE to join the PAC 10 IMO. The only thing keeping them in the Big 12 is that all of their traditional rivals are Big 12 (former Big 8) teams.

We have nothing to offer Big 12: they already own the dallas media market.
