WHY??????

Postby ponytalk » Sun Oct 01, 2000 6:02 pm

Why did we pass the ball three times when we were on the 3 yard line and had to settle for a field goal?

Why did we TRY to pass the ball with like 2:30 left in the game and it was 2nd and 1 and Josh got sacked for a 10 yard loss.

Why did Jason Pipkins not get in the game?

Why was Freeman at WR ALL night and not a RB a lot more?

Why was Comet still running those short pass routes and screens after he caught a beautiful 17 yard catch?

Why couldn't our secondary pick up the bootleg UH ran over and over again on us.

Why didn't Brian McDearman see the field?

All of these questions point to one part of our team, the coaches. The players played their hearts out and you could see it in their expressions after the game. This was the hardest loss for them. But it was out of their control. Briggs ran the ball so well but the coaches did not give it to him when it counted the most. 2nd and 1 in UH's territory at the end of the game, and on the three yard line earlier in the game. I wonder what goes through these coaches’ heads.

The O-line played well, the defense played AWESOME, Briggs did great, so did Josh. Ford and Hampton played awesome as well. I think I read on the other board that Ford is overrated, shows what that guy knows...nothing. Ford had a spectacular game.

Crowley kept us in the game. His three FG's were key, you cannot expect him to make a 44--or however long--FG to win the game, he is not that good. I think the most devastating play call was the pass play when we were 2nd and 1 and Josh got sacked. What were we thinking? Briggs cannot gain 1 yard in three carries???

Great job players! Keep up the hard work, it will pay off.

You've got that right!!
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I agree on several things you said:

If the offensive line is indeed playing well, Briggs needs the ball on 2nd and 1. Who cares if they know it's coming - we have a fairly big line, and Briggs is a big back. He should be able to shove it down their throats if all we need is a single yard.

McDearman needs to get on the field. Those little drag routes (across the middle of the field, underneath the linebackers) that Cardwell runs all game long could be run by McDearman, and he'll catch everything thrown his way.

Freeman needs to play every position except kicker, if needed -- that man needs the ball in his hands.

McCown should have thrown the ball into the seats, rather than take that last sack - that 12-yard loss made a very makable 37-yard field goal into a 49-yarder.
