Notre Dame AD searchponystampede.com is reporting a rumor that there might be an announcement before the end of the week.

Re: Notre Dame AD searchThat really is an earth-shattering announcement, isn't it?There MIGHT be an announcement before the end of the week? That's some cutting-edge journalism there. There also MIGHT be an announcement in the next 10 minutes. Or maybe in the year 2016. Who knows - there MIGHT be more than one announcement between now and then.
Re: Notre Dame AD search
If you prefer to to wait for official press releases and newspaper articles go ahead, but some of us appriciate information from credible sources such as who the final two choices are and that they are going to move on it in the short term rather than the long term.
couch'em thanks for the info
at least we know something may happen this week lets pray the ND decision makers decided they cant take the risk of a 1-11 AD last year C-ya @ Milos!
I had to the opportunity to talk to a ND insider (former Board of Trustee at ND) and he said the insider scoop he had is that Orsini is a done deal. Basically, they are haggling over moving companies or some such minor detail. Anyway, that is the word I got.
Awful. Just awful if he leaves. However, I wish him the best at Notre Dame. What he's done in his short time here is remarkable. We can now have genuine reason for hope at SMU and its pretty much all his doing. Now, even more important than getting JJ, if Orsini is leaving, we MUST make a great hire for his successor. I've said it in previous posts regarding Orsini's future that this university cannot endure another Copeland. That would be the death rattle.
Back off Warchild seriously.
I would submit that it's more difficult to find a good AD than a head football coach. Good ADs transform programs. See Rudy Davalos at New Mexico. Hyman at TCU. Marginal ADs are unapproachable and may be somewhat capable at fundraising but will leave us banging our heads against the wall (see Jim Copeland; Frazier at Hawaii).
Is anyone in the know on who got Orsini hired?
I know it couldn't have been Turner - if he could recognize Orsini's quality he would have axed Copeland long before. It must be a few people who have gained more power on the board of trustees. Ford? Sewell?
Once you put a competitive Model in place then there are multiples of more talented candidates who would be interested and/or could be successful at SMU under that competitive Model. The loss of Steve Orsini is nothing close to a death penalty for the program. Copeland is no different than any of the head coaches at SMU who have had their hands strung for years. SMU now can recover from the loss of Steve Orsini.
Stallion,
It's more than just a "model" or "structural" issue. People are excited about SMU football for the first time in decades largely b/c of the work of Steve Orsini. If he leaves and we replace him with a Copeland-esque type guy, I believe that sends the message we aren't interested in taking the next step that Orsini has laid the groundwork for. Are we operating at a more competitive level from an admissions/recruiting standpoint? No question. Have we become a more attractive destination for coaches? No question. Can it all be blown apart by an idiot who is in over his head? You bet your [deleted] it can. I have faith that the powers that be who hired Orsini saw the success he had and will go after someone who possesses similar characteristics. God help us if we don't. Back off Warchild seriously.
Steve is done deal from what the talk is with ND alums up in my area.
Hoping that we have a nice buyout for June's contract, not that I am worried; but another 1-10 ND season and a SMU bowl game could get me nervous. Hopefully, we can have a nice pick of ADs....
