Jay Angotti 5-10 180 DB SO-TR Honolulu, Hawaii (Washington)

53 Adam Furtwengler 6-2 245 LB SR-0L Corpus Christi, Texas (Nebraska)

A 245-pound LB who played at Nebraska? Nice.

Don't get too excited:

2004-06: Attended Nebraska... A walk-on on the Cornhusker football team (2004-05)... Named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll

Says the DB transfer from Washington played in all their games last year as a redshirt freshman and made several tackles. So he might be pretty good. Does not say whether he played DB or was only playing on special teams.

Can somebody explain why we have the same number for different players. For example, we have two #16, a QB and a WR - we have two #14, both QBs. Our roster is not so big that we have to double up, so what's the deal?

Adam participated in the ending bits of spring ball this year. Couldn't really say anything as far as skills and talent goes yet but he's a real nice kid.

There are designated number schemes for postions, so you are not concerned with 0-99 but rather 0-19 or 20-29, 70-79, etc. Usually if there are 2 identical numbers for active players, you will notice one is offensive and one is defensive. We have many WRs and DB so you will see duplication in those areas quite often. In the case of the two 16s, you can suppose the WR will most likely be redshirted. If the WR makes an impact to where he would be playing , his number will be changed. There will not be two people of the same number on the field at the same time. We had a few last year with duplicate numbers and the announcer would occasionally call the offensive player's name when it was the defensive player making the play or vice versa.

Keep the faith. We've got a little while until kickoff.

Why didn't our LB from Humble Robert Parker have a number? I'm sure he'll get one but it was odd. This was a pretty good recruit as I recall.

I thought about that, but I didn't think he would be a candidate for that. He was a 3-star recruit according to Rivals/Scout or somebody who does that thing.

Glad to see Evan will get his favorite number - 97 -

He wore 79 at Servite as a HS junior and had to wait for 97 for a year.

His HS highlight reel is at youtube if you'd like to see it, here it is...
