Do not forget to put the match book under it so it does not double track while recording.

My vote for your unofficial poll is for JJ to dress up like MM65

JJ can't dress like MM65. JJ is thinner and has more hair.

Nothing really new to report. JJ thinks that we have better skill people and Hawaii had better lineman when he first got their. He did say that he would like to play a game someday where their isn't a running play in it.

I missed the first few seconds of the interview but here's what I did catch (paraphrasing from recording):

JJ mentions Eric Dickerson as one of the first to call him about working at SMU.

Says SMU signed 28 players this year; 3 of them grayshirts. 25 players coming in this Fall.

Cogill asks when camp starts, JJ says in about 2 or 3 weeks...Aug. 3rd.

Cogill asks "Can you expect a lot from the freshmen on this level?" JJ says he thinks right now about 12-15 players may not redshirt this year. SMU is 1-11 and obviously have to put some new blood in the team and get going. There are some talented kids on the field already. And just getting their mind-set and getting it changed is what we've gotta do.

Cogill says "You disciplined your quarterback, #1 quarterback (Justin Willis) who started the last couple of years, I think was all-conference last year, during spring...is that all o.k. now?" JJ says "Yes, it is. He full-filled what we asked him to do this spring and I'm looking forward to working with him this Fall because he did miss spring practice...but he's done everything we asked and I think he got the message that we're a team.

Cogill says "The stadium's been pretty empty - other than for a game here or there - for a very long time. The chance to fill it up this year, if this team wins, is enormous..." JJ responds by saying "Yeah, it is...like I've said...I think there's tremendous opportunity here...and the bottom line is...you've gotta win...and once you win...and I know the people of Dallas love football...I think we're gonna have some exciting kids (to watch)."

Cogill says "You know, Phil Bennett was a good friend of the show...and I know you know Phil (JJ says, "Yes, very well)...who used to be there...is the fear of losing there in your mind at all?" JJ says "You know, I've never operated that way...I feel that I have a real strong faith...I know I'm in this position for a reason...and my job is to prepare and do the best job that I can to affect these kids' lives and by doing the things that I do...team-oriented, getting everybody together...wins come. So, I know that the formula works and it's just fun to be around and see it happen."

Cogill says "O.K. You're connecting with the community. The other day on the Fourth of July there was a parade in the Park Cities and thousands of people showed up and there you are in a red Mustang (photo inserted in interview of JJ in car with a big grin on his face) which is really appropriate...but what's really cool is that we've got the SMU band (photo inserted)...that sent out about 30-40 members...and there's Robert Lee Kobb and Local Heroes (photo inserted)...because our good friend Robert has written a 'Pony Up!' song...we've got the band playing the song...we've got the brass section...and you guys won Best Float in the Parade!" JJ says "Yeah, it was fun and Robert had the whole street going, man!...the whole time...He did a fantastic job!"

Cogill says "You know what's really great about community and SMU is when we get that going...and you drive by that stadium on gameday on Mockingbird...is to see it actually full with fans in that upper level..." JJ says "Yeah... to be able to see it"...and Cogill says "because you can drive by on gameday and see only a handfull of people because they're on the lower level...we want to fill it this year..." and JJ says "Yeah...and hopefully you'll hear 'em, too!"

Cogill asks "Is it gonna be a wild offense this year?" JJ says "Well...like I've said...we throw the football and it's a little different philosophy..."

Cogill says "June, I think you were quoted once as saying you could go a whole game without ever running the ball...will that ever happen in this situation?" JJ says "Well...I don't know that it'll happen but I did say that (grins)."

Cogill ends by saying "The June Jones football era begins Friday, August 29th in Houston that is against Rice...that's coming up soon, June...The Mustangs first home game is Saturday, September 6th. It's against Texas State in Gerald R. Ford Stadium. For tickets, you call the SMU box office at 214-SMU-GAME or you can log onto smumustang.com for your tickets."

Wide shot of Cogill and JJ on set to close out...and, of course, you can see that JJ is not wearing SOCKS!!!!!! :)

MrMustang3.14159, you seem to be hung up on this lack of socks issue. You probably haven't inquired whether Jones regularly wears his fruit of the looms, at least I hope you haven't, but are you also planning to go commando to the games this year just in case?
