Interesting take on June Jones

Some hack named Patrick Magee in some rag called the Hattiesburg American takes a not-so-subtle swipe at June Jones and the Mustangs in his blog:

"(Southern Miss coach Larry) Fedora, June Jones at SMU and Kevin Sumlin at Houston will be the three new faces of C-USA coaching at the media day. Granted, of course, that Jones can fit his ego through the entrance at the Peabody Hotel.

It will be interesting to see what Jones and junior quarterback Justin Willis can do for the ever-woeful SMU football program.

Jones is confident - and with good reason - but does he strike folks as having some enormous ego? When I met him, I was struck by how absolutely humble he is for a guy who has accomplished what he has.

Then again, this Magee hack also says he has "no problem" picking Southern Miss players (RB Damion Fletcher and LB Gerald McRath) as C-USA Players of the Year .... they're good players, but he makes it sound like a race that's over before it starts."

Put me down for Justin Willis and Justin Smart.

So Justin Smart goes from overmatched DE to CUSA Defensive Player of the Year in one year? No homerism there.

Justin Willis would probably need to be the starter here to get CUSA player of the year honors. I have a feeling that will not be the case, at least initially.

this guy is so uninformed, so i guess the fact that jones had the best turn around in ncaa history with a program that had never done jack was a fluke? there is precedent to back up Jone's accomplishment...its not just him being egotistical, it would be different if his accomplishments did not reflect his attitude

29 years old. Here's his bio from the Hburg American:

I've actually lived in Mississippi all my life, growing up in Madison.
College football has always been a love of mine, no matter what school or level of competition.

Lists his passion as "informing the fine folks of Mississippi about USM football."

USM homer. Maybe we could get him to do a where are they now interview w/ Bobby Collins.

That was my point - anyone can pick players from their favorite team.

PonyFan looks like this Southern Miss fan was less a homer than a realist-since his picks of Damion Fletcher and Gerald McRath as CUSA's Offensive and Defensive POYs coincide with the Coaches poll.

so he's a homer AND he can be original with his picks? 2 strikes
