If a player can't participate in a mile run, how can he be cleared to participate in football?

Yeah. No gassers, and they require extended breaks between exhaustive activity. You might think they would make them a worthless receiver.
Any liability on behalf of the school, mr. counselor(s)?
(that was the collective mr. counselor)

they really screwed up with this kid, i had a coach who worked us like this in basketball...after a 2 hour practice my bball coach made my team in HS run 30 suicides and do 20 push ups in between while the other half of the team ran, i got the flu the next day and most of the capillaries in my face burst...its not uncommon for coaches to ouch players waaaay too far, especially in football...its sick to me how the head coach was denying he ever made those comments to the kid about not working hard enough...he's a grown man why cant he take the responsibility?

What exactly does "most of the capillaries in my face burst" mean? Swelling, near death, etc.?

He doesn't want to be sued for millions?

i sincerely hope he can't sued for his comments...they were reprehensible but i would have trouble justifying legal action over them

A real shame. What I don't get is that they tested this kid TWICE for this trait because they obviously knew there was a potential risk to health during extreme physical workouts yet did nothing with the information they obtained.
The smart thing would have been to have told him about his condition and strongly suggest that he not play football, its just not worth it.
This really makes me mad, they took tests and knew this kid could have problems during extreme workouts and yet there he is doing them and the coach is cussing him out for not trying hard enough to boot.

I know June Jones really isn't really a "run suicides, maggots" kinda coach but does SMU have a testing program or a side practice setup for sickle cell trait athletes in order to cover its liability?
