Pretty cool interview. I was in the car, so I wasn't exactly taking notes, but here's what I remember (and I picked it up mid-interview):
- Continues to be blown away by the amount of talent and speed available to him in Texas, and the number of players with speed and talent who also want a good education ... making them viable recruiting targets for SMU recruiting.
- Said the talent in this year's class, which they scouted and recruited in just three weeks, might be more than in any class he ever had at Hawaii.
- Said "selling" SMU has not been hard at all, especially to skill-position players - mostly QBs and WRs.
- Said his is an offense that allows mid-majors to compete with ... and sometimes beat ... major programs, because the way his offense spreads defenses out can neutralize an advantage in talent that the other team might have.
- Said one of the things that caught his interest in his first conversation with Steve-O was Steve-O's "vision" for the program, a vision that includes scheduling more top teams in the future. He said the schedule is ful for several years to come, but it almost sounded like there might be a change or two in the mix. Hard to tell - he sort of glossed over that - but he did sound adamant about the idea that "if you're going to be the best, you've got to play the best," and tied that directly to scheduling in future years.
- Allowed Norm to slide in his hilarious jokes about wanting to house-sit JJ's condo in Hawaii, and another about how the real reason he took the SMU job is because he likes horseracing and there are no tracks in Hawaii. Norm knows his sports, but needs to leave the comedy to others.
Not a lot of breaking news today, but Norm was very complimentary and enthusiastic about Coach Jones.

good recap - thanks! sounds great, can't wait for the season to get here.
how much flexibility is there usually with changing the schedule around? is there a real possibility of adding one of the big guys to our schedule in the next couple years?

I'm glad coach Jones is here. SMU football is now real news and no longer a joke.
